How much does it effect cylinder temperature?

Re: Spraying Nitrous

it cools the air charge down, but it making your motor run faster should make your actual cyl temp go up, i may be wrong, but this makes sence to me.

Re: Spraying Nitrous

QUESTION Does nitrous oxide raise cylinder pressure and temperatures?

ANSWER Yes. Due to the ability to burn more fuel, this is exactly why nitrous makes so much power.

This is from the NOS websites FAQ section. Here is the link

I already knew it raised the temperature... heat is power. But you were making it sound like it got raised dramatically and the Nitrogen doesn't cool none. The intake charge gets cooler, which decreases cylinder temp. But everything else just obliterates that so it just gets raised in the end. haah

Re: Spraying Nitrous

A violent explosion is happening in the combustion chamber when you introduce n2o and more fuel.....just cus the gas comes into the intake manifold cold doesn't mean much. A violant explosion is still occuring, which pushes the piston down harder and faster inturn creating more power. The cylinder pressure and temp should be raised a signifcant amount by adding nitrous, espeically when you go up in size of the shot. A good way to test that would be an EGT probe or something, u'll see a big diffrence I think.

Re: Spraying Nitrous

As the percentage of O2 in the combustion chamber goes up, the combustion temperature increases and the combustion speed increases. Having a cold intake charge helps cram more air and nitrous into the combustion chamber, but the small reduction in sensible heat in the intake charge is going to be overwhelmed by the engery released in the chemical reactions.... which is what NVetro pointed out.

Re: Spraying Nitrous

So Nitrous makes cylinder temp hotter then FI? Which is actually how this entire convo started.

Nitrous makes it hotter than NA. FI is also cramming in more 02, under even more pressure, and has a hotter intake charge coming in.

Re: Spraying Nitrous

One difference is that FI is forcing in more "air"..... not just O2, so the percentage of O2 in the combustion chamber is not changing at all. Theres more of everything, but its still only 21% O2 by volume. When you start to mix in N2O, the O2 percent will be higher than that, depending on the amount of nitrous you're spraying.

Re: Spraying Nitrous

Injuneer do you think an EGT probe would help messure the increase in cylinder temp between N/A and the indroduction of n2o into the motor?
