Post Quick question about spark timing and N2O.

I'm running 37* of timing at WOT (so says the scan master). I'm getting tired of swapping out to another PCM that runs 32* for the bottle.

I'm only running a 100 shot (52n + 35f jets). I've got NGK TR6's for plugs. I was just wondering what kind of added risk of predetonation would I run with the 37* vs 32* timing programming.

Thanks!

What you are asking us to do is tune your car over the Internet??? I personally wouldn't approach it that way...

Since you have a ScanMaster..... when you run 32deg advance on nitrous, do you get any knock retard? Ever? If not, you could probably put in a little more timing, but I wouldn't put it all in at once. Add a degree or two to your nitrous tune and see if you get any retard. Allow for the fact that there are a lot of variables that affect detonation, including inlet air temp, coolant temp, fuel quality (not always the same, no matter what it says on the pump), bottle pressure, whatever. I doubt you should have a problem with a 100-shot, but since you have the ScanMaster, use the info it can provide.

I would rather run a conservative tune I know is safe, than one that puts me on the ragged edge, and could turn bad if one or more of the variables goes in the wrong direction.

Use this advice at your own risk... .

Hey Fred,

How's about 33degrees with a 200 shot on a 7 year old stock bottom LT1 with the knock sensors disabled, 93 octane, and running it to 6500

Seems to me that my carbed car ran about 36* total at 3000 rpm but that was N/A. Any more and the car lost power. NOS and most everyone else claims that 2* should be pulled for each 50hp of N2O. Maybe you should buy LT-1 edit or Tunercat and flash a file that pulls timing at WOT above 3000 or so. Easy enough to change out when you're not at the track. But 37* seems a little steep for 100 shot of N2O. Like Fred says... better to err on the side of caution!!! Your motor will love you
