Nitrous and Manual Transmissions...

Is there anything special I need to do when running nitrous on a manual trannsmission car? Besides a window switch and full throttle activation switch, I've heard some people saying you need anohter safety switch on the clutch pedal.

Just curious what you N20 guys with 5 or 6-speeds are doing. Thanks alot.

Nick

You wont need a switch for the clutch since you'll have a WOT switch. If you let off the gas between the gears like a normal person would, you'll have no need for it. But for someone like me who likes to powershift without letting off the gas, I use a button.

Start saving for a new clutch and rearend! I recommend you add a bottle heater, purge system and a fuel pressure safety switch.

Does anyone actually use nitrous on a manual? If you could tell me your set-up it would be appreciated?

I will be spraying my car very soon. I am waiting for a the money to buy a MSD or Mallory box, I already have the Dyno tune LT1 kit, FPSS, blow down tube, and the BMN window switch with 1st gear lockout. I will be getting a bottle heater, and purge kit before I spray as well.

Re: Nitrous and Manual Transmissions...

I used a 225 shot on my car last year with the M6. I had a window switch, micro on the tb, FP safety and heavy duty MSD relay. I did not use an activation button. I let the Window switch turn it on and off. It worked flawless. Bear in mind my 396 was built for spray but even so there were no hiccups. I lift on the 1-2 but not on the others. 1-2 was too violent and would blow the tires off (relatively small slicks).

This year the DFI Gen 7 controls all the nitrous functions but I still kept the FP safety.

BTW, they're right above, save for a good clutch/rear. M6 cars are hard on driveline components. Ask me how I know......

How does that work? How does it know when you are in first gear?

I believe it works not by what gear you are in but by, The first time the WOT is reached it does not activate the window, but the second time you hit WOT(which should be 2nd gear) it will activate the Nitrous. I am not positive about this but there are many people that have raved about this switch so I figured I would give it a try. I was going to just get the Mallory box with the built in window switch but....I have tryed launching my car NA, and it is difficult w/out any spary in first gear. I can only imagine how bad it would be for me to leave and have the nitrous kick in once i get to WOT about 5-10FT out of the box. That is why I opted for the 1st gear lockout. I'll let you guys know how it works for me though.

I'm running the poor man's nitrous system. I made my own arming switch in the ashtray, and ran a button up by the steering wheel to activate it. My bottle sits in the floor in the passenger's backseat wrapped in an electric blanket powered by a power inverter.
