Anyone run Two bottles?

i'm in the process of trying to run around a 250-300 shot in my sbc. i've heard from a few people that running that much you only get about 2 good passes in then bottle pressure drops too much. so i was thinking of running 2 bottles. i know a 20 lb bottle would probably be the way to go but those are expensive and i can get a good deal on another 10 lber.

so how would i do that? just run a Y and have both bottles open at the same time? would i need both to be at 950 psi or could they be lower? i have no idea about multiple bottles so anything would help.

thanks.

Yes a Y will/does work. The pressure of the two will equalize with the valves open. With this setup you may be able to get a pass more than twice the normal runs. But now you will want 2 extra 10# bottles around that are full to replace the two that are being used up. You might consider 2 15# bottles and just run one. They take the same brackets as the 10# and it might be more convenient.

If you run 2, always run 2. While the pressure will equalize, the volume will not. This would cause a problem if you made a pass or 2 on one bottle and then hooked them both up.

I ran two bottles in my car.I had heater elements on both. However I would unplug one element and only open one bottle at a time.THis way I only had to dill with one bottle. When that one would get low I would close that bottle unplug the element and plug the other one in and open the bottle.
Either way will work.

Re: Anyone run Two bottles?

see i've thought about just running bigger bottles but i don't want to have a whole bunch of different size bottles laying around and i don't want to fork out the money for a 20lb.

i'll think about it some.

thanks for the info, pretty much just needed to know if a Y was all you really had to do.

thanks

Re: Anyone run Two bottles?

Potentially a silly question, but what is it about nitrous bottles that make them so expensive?

Are they under unusually high pressure, as compared to say; a propane (or other gas) tank?

Is it the valve? Some sort of safety item that's internal to the bottle?

What I'm getting at is; is there a particular specification for nitrous bottles that I could use as a guideline as I shop for a more cost effective solution?

They're made of aluminum or carbon fiber wrapped aluminum.
DOT approved.
Highflow valve.
Siphon tube.
Burst disc installed.
Old 10# bottles are easy to find.
Tall skinny ones without the super highflow valve are almost given away when you find them.

I ran two 10# bottles last year for the reason you state. Worked good. I got about 5 passes give or take conditions with a 225 shot. Switched to dual 15# this year for the big 400 hit.

5 passes between two bottles? Wow, I thought you could get a bit more than than. That would be like 2-3 runs for one ten pound bottle (if you keep the pressure up) on a 225 shot. Cut the shot it to a 100 shot and you would only get 5-6 passes?

Something doesn't add up. What am I missing?

nice setup, btw.

You're not missing anything. I got 3 good passes per 10# bottle before presure drop caused tuning issues. The shot was really set for 250 but it was fat and ended up only giving me about 230 give or take so that's why I call it a 225 shot.

Per 10lb bottle. I was thinking 3 passes for 20lbs (2x10lb). Makes more sense .
