nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

ok, i really want to put nitrous on my car and i want to be safe and cheap of coarse. i have the mods in my sig and was planning on headers, rockers/springs and the MSD box, but i will prolly do the nitrous kit first so i get the "big" thing outa the way and then just have small bolt ons after that i guess is what im getting at. ive never had any car with nitrous so im new to all of it.

i was thinking about that kit and also considering the NX kit, but i heard the dyno tune kit is better. any oppinions or info on that?

also, i have a 6 speed and was wondering what would be the best way to go for the switch. if i had an arming switch and then a button for the nitrous do you hold the button for as long as you want and then do you let off to stop spraying or how does that work. also would a button be better or a WOT switch. i would probably get an air/fuel gauge and fuel pressure gauge and nitrous pressure gauge. i will prolly end up getting only 2 for the a pillar pod, which ones will i want more? i know i will have to get the nitrous pressure gauge but then the fuel pressure or a/f ratio gauge or should i really try to get all three? im very new so i will have a lot more questions probably, but any help is greatly appreciated!

There are a number of people who run a 200 shot on the stock bottom. However, if you want to go that big, you MUST have everything just right.

I would suggest that you work VERY closely with the vendor you buy the kit from.

Re: nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

well the most realistic thing, i will get the dyno tune kit, nitrous pressure gauge and (what other gauge should i get) and also(what type of switch) and run it at like 100 shot. that will be on my stock motor with the mods in my sig. then in a few months i would get LT's and 1.6 rockers. also some suspension mods. but will i be safe with that setup on a stock motor at only a 100 shot? like i said im new to all this and will have a lot of questions i really appreciate anyone who can help me at all.

Which kit you get isn't that big of a deal. I would say the ancillaries are the thing to look out for. I would recommend at least a better fuel pump if you are going to run a dry kit, and preferably bigger injectors, or at least better ones. Neither of those is a big deal with a wet kit. I would STRONGLY recommend an MSD box or similar. I have the Mallory 685 and am very pleased with it. It lets me set the nitrous to come on at a certain rpm, and off at a certain rpm (window switch). It also has a high speed retard, which I can adjust depending on how much nitrous I want to spray. It has a soft-touch rev limiter which is a must have. I have mine wired up like this -

Arming switch turns everything on.
When car is wot and above 3000 rpms, its sprays - pulls timing - and stops spraying at 6400
Rev limit is 6700 - stock ecu rev limit is 7200

Works great, you can spray and not worry about it, and if it spins, its not a big deal, as you dont have to worry about spraying without a load, or hitting a fuel cut. Im very happy with my setup.

so if i get a wet kit i can keep it pretty much how it is now? what kit would u recomend so that i would have to do the least amount of more modifications to my car. o yea i forgot i will be getting the MSD 6A box and harness before LT's or rockers. totally forgot about that. i really dont wanna upgrade fuel pumps or injectors tho. sowaht do you think...

Re: nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

ok im cool with the kit and solenoids and gauges and what not. few more questions tho, why do i need a FPSS, im reading that they shut off the fuel pump/stop fuel from flowing. why would i need this. also if i had a WOT switch and a window switch does that mean that the nitrous would only activate if i was at WOT between X rpms and Y rpms and shut off if i passed Y. basically my main concerns are about the FPSS and the window switch and activation method. thanks for helping me learn more, so i can at least have a good idea about things now and not have to waste money.

Re: nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

yes thats what a window switch is...

i have a MSD digital, nitrous comes on at 3k and shuts off at 5,800 for me..

i do have a FPSS also, what this does is if the fuel pressure drops below lets say 25 psi, it will shut off the nitrous solenoid and i belive fuel also so you dont mess your engine up...

Re: nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

so it kinda just stops all nitrous and shuts the engine down by cutting off fuel, correct? which one do you recomend, i looked at summit and they haev a bunch of different ones all around 20-40 dollars. also, is it good to have a window switch so that when u come off the line at WOT you arent just smoking your tires off and sitting there, but after the car gets some traction the nitrous will kick in or what...am i getting the right idea or no. whats the difference between a digital one and normal one. can u suggest a good cheap one for me? i looked through jegs and summit a little and didnt find anythign but i was jsut browsing and didnt intend on finding one to buy. one more thing, is the NX kit here...
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...57&prmenbr=361
...a wet kit? and that dynotune kit isnt. i didnt read much on that dynotune kit but i heard its good and i can see that its cheap. if i get a wet kit which one should i aim at for keep the costs of everything down.thanks again!

Re: nitrous kit on basically stock LT1

well i bought my kti used for 400$ came with nitrous and fuel solenoid, WOT switch and all the lines...

then i bought a digital window switch off ebay for like 80$ instead of like 110$

a digital switch, you can actually enter in your rpms, instead of a regular window siwtch, you just plug in 2 diff chips like 3000 and 6000....

digital you can program it by 100 rpm accurments...

like mine, comes on at 3000 then shuts off at 5800

wet kits acutally put out more hp than dry i belive, and they are better IMO

Dynotune offers a wet kit also. It would be the best option for you. http://www.speedshop.org/store/scrip...?idproduct=110
Top quality at $399.00 cannot be beat!

As others have mentioned the MSD digital window switch is the route to go. I know they are due back in stock by the end of the week. $99.00

Good luck!
