Is N2O socially acceptable?
It wasnt long ago that N2O was considered somewhere between a black art and just not right...people used to frown in a big way...but from what Ive seen that tide is somewhat turning....
I have a stock 2000 Z (M6) which so far as an SLP lid on. Im debating what else to do to the car, Im going to do a cat back, but Im wondering if, instead of the whole rest of things, I should just throw a basic N2O system in for those times when I want some extra fun....any thoughts?

It's fine for some fun but I wouldn't do it to my own car. This may sound strange to some guys out there but I never liked it - maybe I'm just too afraid of killing the engine...maybe it can handle it just fine.... I'd rather spend the money and get a head and cam package.... haven't done it yet but.....
NItrous is actually the latest fad. All the "tuners" are using it and alot of weekend-warrior sand dunes guys are on the juice, too. If you don't abuse it, you'll be fine. Like most things in life, moderation is the key!!!
It's a relatively inexpensive way to gain some real hp. why not try it? If it doesn't suit you, yank it out. Personally, I prefer not to hassle changing bottles, etc. So, I'd opt for a supercharger upgrade. Mo money, but just like your decision to juice or not to juice, it's a matter of personal choice.

And then there's all of those "normal people" out there that don't know much about cars. Those people will think you are NUTS for having a 900 PSI bottle of laughing gas in the back of your car.

I've heard of a guy in my town that blew out his LS1 using NOS. Now, I don't know how hard he was using it, but what I'm asking, is this. Is the LS1 build sturdy enough to withstand NOS, or does it seriously limit the life of the engine?? I can see if you rebuild it with aftermarket rings, bearings, seals, etc that it might handle NOS better. I might put NOS on mine, but not after rebuilding the LS1 myself with high quality parts... no offense to GM, but I don't trust anyone but myself when it comes to working on my engine.
I think nitrous is socially acceptable, and if someone doesnt like my juice, then they can kiss my A$$! I had my nitrous works kit before the first fast and the furious movie came out and its worked fine ever since I got it. Id say look into it and decide what kit is best for you, but I wouldnt expect to get a kit goin for under a grand. I spent $430 on the kit, and then ended up spending another 150 or so I bet on all the wires, loom, top quality bosch relays, switches, FPSS, custom fittings, and various other tid-bits that add the the look, safety and functioalitly of the kit. I mounted the bottle between the seats and that cost me 15 bucks for the crap (Custom). I know i spent at least 1200 bucks to get the thing going the way I wanted it to look and run with a full bottle. dont expect it to be too cheap, but NO2 is the bomb when you know what youre doing. it increase torque more then it does hp so youre going to pull so hard, its nice. and the ls1 is the capable of handling whatever. Ive heard of guys sprayin 250 on a stock 01/02 ls1. of course longevity issues then come into play, but 150-175 is the limit. the weak link it the motor is the rod bolts, so if you have a 98-00 car id spray a little less, but the 01 and 02 cars have stronger bolts. Go for the juice, dont be a pu$$y. you only live once...and i dont like to lose.
Keep the shot at 100 and under and you will be fine longevity wise. Get the saftety options and you will be ok. Just keep reading up on and speak to those who are loving and those who hate it. I will help you make up your own mind about it. A 50 shot gave me 6mph more in the 1/4 mile traps. Remember the key is not to be greedy. A good setup will cost you about 1000..give or take a little. Remote bottle open is an option, but any saftety equipment like MSD window switch is a must. At the track I go to I see a lot of these 600 - 900 hp cars on motor using nitrous. These include old timers too!!! Horse power is horse power. After that first spray you will see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, it used to be really frowned upon, but throughout history the only people I ever recall whining about nitrous fall into two catagories:
1. The guy that just lost the race...
2. The one that spent thousand of $$$ on heads, cam, superchargers and tuning and just got beat by a stock car running nitrous.

I love the juice. It's the only way my near 3,900lb car can run as fast as it does with full emissions, mild cam, etc. As far as the old thing about not having when you need it, that's what they make remote bottle openers for. Not that I need it very often.
