N20 Questions
N20 Questions
Wanting to drop a NX wet kit in my LT1 Z before it warms up.
First problem, did A LOT to the car over the winter and JUST put in new platnum plugs. I am pretty much going to have to pull them out for NGK's right???
Next, If I don't get a guage right away how do you know when your pressure is going down or do you just run out?
I want the pressure activated heater and a gauge for it soon but I was just wondering.
Did a seach and did not find anything.

Re: N20 Questions
There are people better qualified to answer your specific questions than I am, but I did want to advise you one thing.
Nitrous Oxide is a very safe power adder, PROVIDED that you respect it by using it properly. By that I mean... don't try to "jerry rig" your nitrous system. If you can afford the system, but not the gauges needed to monitor it, then leave the system on the shelf in your garage until you have bought the rest of the components. Same goes for any other "support" items, like upgraded fuel system or what have you.
Nitrous has the potential to do thousands of dollars of damage to your engine in mere seconds.
The bottom line here is, and I say this from long experience; it's ALWAYS cheaper to do it right the FIRST time. This is especially true with Nitrous.
And when you speak to the nitrous vendors here, like Dave and Rick, and they advise you to do certain things, install certain components... follow ALL of their suggestions BEFORE the first time you activate your system.

Re: N20 Questions
plugs are so cheap autolite 104's are close to $1 and ngk's are less then $2. I bottle end guage is around $40 if that is to much to spend. you might want to hold off for a while.
Re: N20 Questions
I am going to go ahead and get the NGK's and the gauge (I pulled some stuff under the hood so plug changing is easy now with stock manifolds) and look at the pressure activated heaters. Anyone want some brand new platnums :P
I am pretty well known for respecting power. I do not plan on going over a 125 shot on the stock fuel system or motor. I have heard of it done I just don't want to. One of my buddies offerd to let me ride his 2004 Yamaha R1 and I said no I wanted to learn more on his Suzuki 100 so I respect the power, I have known to many people who have blown engines or been killed because they did not respect the car/bike/or did stupid things.

Re: N20 Questions
let me clear some things up. Bottle pressure is esential to n2o performance. When the bottles out, you will go rich from the extra fuel spraying, not hurt anything. A guage is not *required* for safe running, just for consistant running.
Also it would be a GOOD idea to get a better fuel pump. This will ensure you are getting a good pressure and solid flow. I really like the walbro 255s, and love the racetronix kit.
For safety you REALLY want a fuel presure safety switch. This will cut the N2O if for any reason your fuel pressure drops. I would also suggest a window switch to make sure that N2O is not spraying at too low an rpm or durring a shift.
do a search on google for "new to nitrous" for a lot of good infomation on how it works and what can go wrong.

Re: N20 Questions
i would say a pressure guage is a must if even if you have it jetted at 125 if you leave that bottle in the car on a hot summer day and go try to spray bottle pressure couls be 1400-1600 psi making the nitrous flow the like you have much much bigger jets making you safe 125 shot very unsafe. If you have some crapy NOS power shots thats not a problem becuse they tend to just lock shut. but if you have some thing a little beefier you may go way lean way lean is bad bad.

Thanks for all the info so far.
The car will be up on jack stands for at least another month so I am in no hurry
Re: N20 Questions
Mean, is the Purge valve in the GenX-2 the complete purge system or would I still have to fab up a purge line?
Oh guys the kit is an NX "GM EFI Wet Kit" adjustable from 75-150hp
Thinking about an NGK TR6 plug????
N20 VERRRYYYY SOOOONNN!!!!!!!
Racetronix coming next

Re: N20 Questions
The purge kit comes with a 10" purge line, which usually isn't long enough to route it where you want..... What I always use to fab a purge line is 3/16" brake line tubing.... You can pick it up at autozone mega cheap.... It bends easy, and works great!!!
Re: N20 Questions
I have done quite a bit of tube bending at school with brake lines (aviation maintenance) so I was kinda hoping I would get to fab up my own line
That make me a lot happier knowing its a truley complete kit, I hate having to peice kits together....
Thanks for the e-mail back, I wrote him and asked him.
