Mail Order Tune

A buddy of mine has a 97 LT1 with a LE2 package. He just put a 75 shot on int and got the mallory box also. Needs a better tune for the nitrous.. Would anyone recommend a mail order tune for nitrous?

No. If he gets a PCM tune and has timing pulled, that car will have a loss of timing at all times, not something you want when driving naturally aspirated on the streets. I would get the Mallory 685 ignition box which has a feature of when the nitrous system activates, then timing is pulled. Once the nitrous system is deactivated, the timing once again returns back to its original state.

2000, he said he already had the mallory.(early in the morning i know) The mallory can do all of the retarding of timing and such for the nitrous. A mail order tune from say madz28 or pcmforless.com will give you a good baseline tune to work with. I got a mail order last year when i first got my set-up but im going to go spend some time on the dyno this year and get it dialed in.

As stated before....there is no need to retune the PCM for nitrous use.
I reccomend contacting whoever tuned the car and find out how far, if any, they advanced the timing. Then you can retard the timing back to stock for the nitrous using the retard feature of the 685

Yeah, I missed the part that he already has the Mallory box, it is a tad early I guess . But he also mentions his friend needs a "better nitrous tune" which I would interpret and a tuner would most likely interpret as pulling timing or not advancing it at all over the factory setting. I would definitely get a PCM tune and I would get the "premium gas tune" as well which will advance the timing a couple degrees and add some power to his naturally aspirated application. Whatever shot he plans on spraying, he should contact the tuner and find out how much timing he should pull and make those adjustments with the Mallory box.

Well I found out a little more info.. His tune is suppose to be set at 34 degrees for the motor. He converted his car to obd1 and put the obd1 knock sensor in also and thinks his sensor is bad because its pulling different timing now.. The reason being because its tripping a code and he is spraying a 75 shot and he has sprayed it about 3 or 4 times but said it just isn't pulling like it should
