LT1 2 Step Colder Gap?

Im spraying a 100 shop with my NX MAF kit. I gapped the NGK TR7IX to .038 since I couldnt get any other info on what gap to use on those plugs. I still have a detonation problem though. Maybe I didn't gap them right? Anyone know what gap these plugs should be at?

Could you give a little more details of your setup. In your sig, it says you have a Madz28 tune. Did you have him do the Premium gas tune? If so, that will advance your ignition timing a few degrees right there. If you don't have a way to pull that timing back when you are spraying, that could caused possible detonation problems. Also, did you try one step colder plugs first and then switched to two step colder? The one step plugs should be all you need for your size of shot, I'm leaning towards the problem being something else other then the plugs. As for the gap you used, .035-.038 is a good range to fall in, which you did.

Yes I did get the premium fuel upgrade but the timming retards 2 degrees at WOT. The nitrous setup is a basic wet kit with a spraying plate that replaces the MAF housing. I did try one step colder and still had considerable detonation. Another thing that I was thinking is that maybe the timming adjustment on my MSD opti is too far advanced. Your saying that my plugs are gapped right though?

Your gaps sound good. I would recheck the timing adjustment on your distributor then.

If you are getting retard on motor, you need to get that fixed before even thinking about spraying.

Plug gap is adjusted to keep the spark from blowing out, not to control detonation. 100-shot on a stock engine should not require two steps colder than stock. You've got more serious problems than plug gap if you have detonation.

I ran 110 leaded gas Saturday at the track and had no detonation at all with stock spark plugs. I think the timming advance on my MSD Opti is the problem. I will try tinkering with the timming adjustment screw and see if I get positive results.

sounds good but what scan tool are you using to measure timing? I also agree that with a 100 shot you have problems else where
