i have a few questions about nitrous....

im new to nitrous system's all together, and was wondering is it better to have higher compression with nitrous or less compression?im trying to decide what to do with my engine weather to spray it,or supercharger,my engine is almost done at the machine shop, and i need to pick out the rest of the setup, pistons and that stuff, how safe is a nitrous system??i was thing about going carb. with spray plate,or direct port, also with a fully forged bottom end and good aluminum heads, will the engine handle 200-300 shot?

lt1 engine all new components

thanks

A properly set up nitrous system is extremely safe. Nitrous will work with either high or low compression motors. It depends on if you want to run race or pump gas and if the vehicle is a race or street, or a combination of both. Your bottom end should be okay, but then again it depends on what you go with for pistons and so on.

One thing to really consider with a 200-300 shot is the cam size. You have to be able to get all that nitrous in the cylinder to take advantage of it. If that size shot is really what you want, be sure to get a cam that can handle it.

Nitrous loves compression. However if you get to High of a compression you will have to run race gas.

Re: i have a few questions about nitrous....

Phil,
I have built many street LT1 strokers with 11.0 to 11.5.1 compression. With the 11.5.1 compression It really needs good gas for the nitrous. The tune up will play a huge factor. For the fuel system for the nitrous I suggest looking at our dedicated systems. You can run 116 in that and 93 in the tank. The best way to get a cam is custom cut to your head flow numbers, weight orf vehicle, gear ratio, and compression. I have used laser cams and have been very happy with the results. Get a good NA cam.Dont get cuaght up into thinking you need a all out nitrous cam.
