How much retard for 75 shot?

I'm thinking about running nitrous next year.

How much retard should I dial is for a 75 shot? 100 shot? and a 150 shot?

I have 11.8:1 compression in a 383 with forged SRP pistons.

2 degrees for every 50 h.p. of nitrous.

I would pull 2 degrees since I am sure you are sitting at your ideal timing N/A.

this is pulling 2 degrees from stock right? so if you have a tune that adds timing, you need to take out more?

Re: How much retard for 75 shot?

okay, if you are running a stock/bolt on LT1 and have advanced the timing already, I would pull the amount you have already advanced PLUS the 2* per 50hp! This is only because of the Hypereutectic pistons and their weak ring lands.

On a built Engine with Forged pistons, If the programming is right at ideal timing with pump gas I would pull the 2* per 50 and call it good. If you are nervous, pull 3* or use some high octane mixed in the tank.

Re: How much retard for 75 shot?

I run stock timing, 3-4 gallons of race gas and don't pull any timing

Re: How much retard for 75 shot?

NX's tech line told me I don't need to pull ANY timing up to a 150 shot! I asked about the "2* for every 50 HP" rule. Their tech man told me that's only when you get ABOVE 150 HP.

I'm only going to spray 150, and I've got an MSD digital spark retard box wired in. I think I want to pull 2* just to stay on the safe side.

Re: How much retard for 75 shot?

well, when I was spraying a 150 shot on a bolt on engine, I only pulled 3* from my program that was advanced already (i think I had it 4* from stock)....I eventually started having some bad blowby, then i lost the top of a piston. I Guarantee I would have had better luck had I pulled more timing.

I have 11.8:1 compression and I'm tuned for 92 octane gas but I have access to 94 octane.

383 with forged pistons.

Re: How much retard for 75 shot?

I am spraying 75hp with no mods to the ignition accept bigger wires and one step colder plug. Correct me if I am wrong but isnt the reason to pull/retard the timing when using N2O is to prevent detonation? I think that the knock sensor does that. I just run a higher octane gas @ the track or on the street if i will be spraying. Just a thought.
