How hard is NOS on a tranny?
Hey, I've been kinda anti-bottle for a while, but I was thinking that I might do it just for an extra little edge. So my question is, is running a 150 NOS shot going to be hard on my tranny? I have a 700r4 that was pretty heavily rebuilt to handle a lot of power, but I still would rather be safe then sorry.

Yep, it will be harder. You'll be adding approx 200-250 more lbs of torque. For the most part, that's all the way through your rpm range while your spraying, not just peak. While some people have, I havent had much luck with the 700r4 (4l60) - to the tune of 2 supposed bullitproof rebuilds from PMAC in Houston, before it crapped out for a third time and the TH400 was transplanted.
It may live for awhile with the juice, but I wouldnt expect (or buget for) a long and healthy 700r4 tranny life, if you spray very often.

My 4l60e gave out after about 20 low 11 sec runs in stock form.
I have a BUILT 4l60e from a friend, and the same parts that are in mine were in a 700r4 that went mid 10's all last season with NO breakage or any type of serious wear. So far mine has been through at least 30 mid-low 11 sec runs, and drained the fluid for the heck of it,looked brand new.
Biggest thing is get a COOLER,and watch the converter.

Yep, some people are doing well with the 700R4's, but you have to ask yourself, how much do you trust your tranny builder? Is he as good as Frank (most are not)? What's it worth to find out?
Personally, I didnt want to take the risk again. I'm pushin approx 800 pounds of rear wheel torque on juice in a 3700 (with driver) pound car and didnt want to throw out the dice again.
Ask your tranny builder for references (and call them). See if any of the 700r4s he's built has stood the test of time, before you gamble that yours will holdup. Of course if you got money to blow - screw it and drive on.
