AN fittings are NOT created equal! Nitrous Express versus Earls
Hi all,
I just got my awesome throttle body solenoid bracket from the Nitrous Outlet, and I'm attempting to install my Nitrous Express wet kit. I've never done a kit before, and I'm very confused with these darned fittings that came with the NX kit. They don't seem to fit any of the holes in the solenoids, nor are they a good fit to the braided steel hoses. Heck, I can't even get my wrenches on the hexes on these fittings!
What gives? Well, I pulled out my handy-dandy calipers and measured the hex of the first two: .453 inches. Hmm. It can't be 7/16, as that is .438. Nor can it be 12mm, which is .472 inches. It's not 11 mm, which is .433 , so I guess that makes this a 11.5 mm hex.
I guess the folks at NX must always use ADJUSTABLE CRESCENT WRENCHES exclusively for the installation of their kits. There's no other way.
Now onto the ends of the fitting: the 1/8 NPT wil not screw into the solenoid, except with one thread. Whoa boy, I'm not going to push it any further for fear of stripping some threads. I have an Earl's 1/8 NPT that fits in there just fine. So I guess the NPT is oversized on the fitting as well.
What about the AN end of things? Well at least that end seems to work okay.
Am I gun shy? Should I just jam these things into my NX "Iceman" solenoid and call it good? Well, since I'm somewhat prudent I'm thinking that a call in to Nitrous Outlet is going to happen, first thing tomorrow. I'm rapidly running out of time, as the M12 event is in only 10 days!
