Connecting to the fuel shrader valve question!

I am going to be hooking up my wet kit here soon and I was told u had to screw out the valve in the Schrader bc there isnt anything in the fuel line to press it down. What do I use to remove it out of my schrader valve.

Just for the other people, if you go to autozone or wherever, pick up a tire tool, little X shaped thingie, has the scrader(sp) valve on one side, it's the same thing as what your tire valve is.

I would suggest one thing, before you unscrew it let the car sit for a little while so the fuel pressure goes down. Or you can just spray yourself with fuel if that's what ya want. (I let mine sit for atleast 30 mins)

good luck.

Or a set of needle nose pliers works too.

I was thinking about using a fuel pressure tester and then using the feature where u can press the buttom and it will bleed out all the fuel through the rubber hose. My fuel pressure stays for a while so it might have to sit for the night or something if the fuel pressure tester idea falls through.

it's no big deal. with the car off, the amount of fuel that comes out of the rails isn't that much. put a shop rag under the valve and push the center in with a pen. it'll only be a couple ounces or so.

Re: Connecting to the fuel shrader valve question!

Well, as far as how much fuel comes out I am sceptical. I was under my car changing the fuel filter back this summer. I disconnected the lines at the filter and was sprayed in the face and the neck and my skin was burning for about a half an hour while I ran to the shower and got underneath the water. A LOT of fuel came out, I am going to have to say that it had to have been close to 1/4 of a gallon or so. So I am going to be very careful. Just for everone else gas+ eyes+ face= very bad burning.

Changing the filter is different. If you failed to relieve the tank pressure by releasing the cap, you probably unloaded a huge amount of fuel in your face, and then it continured to siphon from the tank.

With the Schrader valve being pretty much at the high point in the system, you are only relieving residual pressure in the system, and from my experience, this is nothing that can't be contained by a small rag wrapped around the Schrader valve when you depress the valve. Using the pressure relief feature of a test gauge setup is also a good idea.

Just save your fuel work until the engine has cooled down.
