Blowdown tubes?
Blowdown tubes?
Alright the only thing keeping me from going nitrous is the blowdown tube rule..........I think i know what they are.......aren't they just a tube that directs the nitrous out of the car if bottle breaks or something?? I just don't want to cut a hole in the bottom of my car. So tell me all there is to know about blowdown tubes
If you have the bottle in the hatch well, there are two large rubber plugs sealing holes in the bottom of the well. I suspect there is also a drain plug in the spare tire well. You could rig the blowdown tube to exit through one of those.
Not sure why you are concerned about drilling a small hole in the floor..... it's not like these are some sort of rare, exotic cars that are going to have some sort of future resale value. I drilled a small hole in the hatch well for a "bulkhead" fitting, and connected an -8AN hose. You can see the rubber plug in the floor a few inches in front of where I put the fitting. If I put the carpet back in, you'd never know the hole was ever there.....

That is a good idea......i forgot about that grommet in the spare compartment........how are your guys' bottle's mounted? Straight up? can i put it in the spare compartment? Does it have to be mounted a specific way?

The bottle is tilted forward... it just doesn't show in the picture. That puts the siphon tube at the lowest point. But I never pull more than 2 or 3 passes out of a single 10# bottle, so I never run it low enough to run the risk of uncovering the siphon. Remember, as you pull the liquid nitrous out of the bottle, some of the nitrous in the bottle has to vaporize to fill the "empty" space created by using up the liquid nitrous. When that liquid vaporizes, it cools the remaining nitrous, and reduces the bottle pressure. When the level in the bottle is low, you get too much cool down on the nitrous and too much pressure loss by the end of the track. It's not a problem if you are running a 100-shot, but when you up it to the 250-300HP range, its an issue.
I'm a little confused on the siphon tube thing. Is it at the valve part? So i would have to fill the bottle more if i mounted it upright? Someone explain the whole nitrous flow to me......is there a tube that extends to the bottom of the bottle? You want the liquid right?
