which is the better pump for 650hp?
I posted this on another board but haven't gotten any responses so here goes for a second time. My mechanical carter fuel pump crapped out on my while I was attempting to get some burnout video footage yesterday so now I want to step up to an adeqcuate pump. The engine is putting out around 425-450hp plus the 150hp nitrous plate I will be using this year. Currently my fuel system consists of 1/2" aluminum piping that cuts down to 3/8" at the now shot mechanical pump with no reurn line.
I'm looking at possibly the holley blue or black, but I have heard the holley pumps are near the bottom of many peoples favorite list do to being too loud, leaking, and just plain not working. I'd like to keep my buget in check and try to stay under $150 but I also want to be happy with my purchase. This is a street/strip car the sees usually only sees the street the day it goes to the track and my exhaust is quite loud so noise is not a big concern.
If I am looking at supporting a total of 650hp, how much pump do I need (GPH)? Here are a few pumps I'm considering
Aeromotive 11203 - 150GPH 14psi max

Holley black -140GPH, 14 psi max
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Holley HP 125- 125GPH, 6psi max Rated for 750hp
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Edelbrock - 120GPH 6.5psi max

With the pumps on the bottom of my list I won't need a regulator right? When comparing 2 seperate pumps with the same flow rating (150gph for example) pump A has a max pressure of 18 while pump B has a max of 8 psi. With both pumps behind a 6 psi regulator, pump B will outperform pump A right?

Re: which is the better pump for 650hp?
hay, I have about the same set up you have. And I'm running a holly black. It's a little loud but like you said the exhaust takes care of that. It works just find. I really wouldn't run a smaller pump. no reason to risk running out of fuel and blowing the engine just because you got to small of a pump. I think the holly black is good to abut 700-750 hp so if you ever go for more spray. there you go that's my 2 cents.
