Battery Relocation & Nos Setup
Battery Relocation & Nos Setup
Would like some advice as to how I can relocate my battery to the
trunk (95 Z28), and install NOS somewhere, so it is safe and legal (?)
The spare tire setup works not sure I want to take a chance on
expecting no flat tires in the future.
1995 Z28 Red/Black Ttop: A4: AFR head; compcam 224-230" MSD Billet
LT1 Dist. EWP: 58mmHolley TB" Global West Traclink Torque ArM.
Spohn A-arms/upper and lower balljoints: K-member Tubular Crome Moly.
BeCool RAD, etc.etc.etc. too much to list.

Safe - If it is set up properly, with the appropriate safety switches and such. And no, it will not make your car explode like on TF&TF.
Legal - As far as I know, it is legal to have on the car. Illegal to USE on the street. But prove you sprayed it ? Or at least this is what I was told.

WHen you say "legal", are you refering to local vehicle laws or sanctioned racing rules?
Evidentially, some vehicle laws do not allow a person to actually use a nitrous system on public roads, so if you are concerned about that, you should probably check with your local law officials (yeah right!!!)
There are no real concerns with having a nitrous bottle and automotive battery mounted in close proximety to one another, BUT ther is a concern with having a battery mounted inside the passanger compartment if it is not properly vented to outside the car. In other words, you should only mount the battery in an "approved" battery box and ensure that it has been propery vented as a battery lets off explosive gasses when it is being charged and has the potential to explode, given the right conditions. I believe Moroso makes a blue battery box that is NHRA approved as well as Taylor. If you plan on racing the car at the track, they will also require a "PROPERLY" installed battery disconnect switch in order to pass tech.
The nitrous tank should have the proper NHRA blow down tube and bottle fitting and be vented outside the vehicle.
I have seen people fit both their battery and nitrous bottle in the spare tire well, but have not seen them be able to fit the battery into an approved box when locating it there.
Here's a picture of my set-up. Hope it helps some. Sorry it's not a real clear picture.

As far as "legal", check your local laws. Here in NJ, you need a permit to possess N2O..... not because its used to produce HP, but because it is considered a controlled dangerous substance under NJ drug laws.
wow that sux, I guess here in Texas thing are really different, at least here in south texas..
