Driving it only one or two times a month on the street and at the track just about every weekend will not be that bad on gas mileage. This is not my daily transportation but it used to be.

And running a 6" rod has no effect if your running juice, w/ 6" rods the rod angle is alot better that a 5.7. With that the pistons have less drag on the cylinder walls because of the rod angle.

So if its not a daily driver, get a larger hydraulic roller camshaft...

The only off the shelf camshaft I can find is a Lunati and it is ground on a too tight of a lobe separation for your application. Cam motion should be able to grind you a camshaft and send it out the same day.

His car will run fine on pump gas.

I have almost the exact same setup in my car right now and it is my daily driver. It's a
355
12.4 to 1 total compression
stock crank & rods w/ARP wavelock rod bolts
TRW forged pistons
LT1 ported heads (flowed 276/200 @ .600 w/ 51 cc chambers) CC306
CC 875-16 lifters
CC chromoly pushrods
Hooker lontubes
CC promag 1.6 rr's
Meziere WP
BBK 58mm & ported intake
Stock 10 bolt w/ original 3.42's
SVO 30# injectors
NOS inline fuel pump

The car is semi tuned and gets about 20 mpg (gonna tune some more to see if I can get better gas milage )on the highway with 93 octane. It does not have any detination issues or any other issues at all. I haven't had a chance to take it to the track or dyno it as of yet. I only have about 2000 miles on the motor and have been real busy around the holidays. But I will say that the car boils the tires above 3k rpm in 2nd w/the 3.42's. I can't wait for the 12 bolt and 4.11's.

There are several company's that will custom grind you a cam. I have personally had Crower and Comp Cams grind me hyd roller cams and I have used Kam Motion for solid roller. I have had great results with all 3 company's. What you should do is call which ever company you choose to use and explain to them what you are building and they can help you pick out the grind specs of the cam and they will grind it and ship it to you. It will cost more than an off the shelf cam, but in the majority of the cases it will run much better.
