Hey guys, I am planning on moving out to AZ after I graduate and lose some weight, so that I can get a change of scenary. Where do you guys reccomend living? I have heard many stories of the "****ty" towns, but others say they are nice. I just need the facts. Tell me all the pros/cons of AZ.

OH MY GOD!!! And I can't stress this enough! Stay the Hell outta Az. I lived there for five months, and I thought I would shoot myself in the head from boredom. It sucks! Way to hot....way to cold! Non-union. Right to work state. IT SUCKS!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MAN....DON'T DO IT!!!

Love, Maria!

Damn you guys are harsh. I've lived here all my life and I'm very happy. You can drive your car year round, if you wanna play in the snow just drive North for about an hour, then you can still come back and go swimming. It gets pretty hot in the summer, but it is awesome out from about Oct.-Mar. I can always find something to do. Scottsdale is a very nice city, but a lot of people are move out to the North West part of town which is also very nice or the east valley is good. Check out www.arizonafbody.com to get some more feedback.

I like Arizona. I moved there from Indiana 9 years ago. I lived in Fort Collins, CO in 2000-2001 and couldn't wait to get back to AZ. I live in ilbert which is in the East Valley of the Phoenix area. The cost of livin is much lower in AZ than CO. The weather is great most of the time although it does get pretty warm in the summer. I'll put up with that over the snow, rain, etc anytime. There are two dragstrips in the valley and they're both open all year.

AZ's biggest problem is all the weenies that have moved here from other places... IF it was just the natives it's be tons nicer.

Expect 100+ degree summers and dust... lots of it.
IF you like sports.. you're in the right place, but don't expect the teams to win (well except the D-backs). Sometimes just showing up is all the effort they can muster.

Flagstaff is very pretty but boring, Tuscon is well .. ummm yeah don't want to offend they guys down in the old pueblo. Prescott is pretty. "The valley" can be intresting, with the right people.
Keep in mind, it's not like LA with tons of theme parks and a beach, but on the up side, less air pollution ( althought we are trying to be competitive), traffic, and taxes. (Yeah for those of you that bitch... you want to hate life move one state west).

Just like anywhere else it's what you make of it.

Its simple...

If you like Outdoor activities.... AZ is the place to be.

If you like indoor activities... Go somewhere else.

I moved here from Manhattan. I've never been an indoor type person so I like being out and about. AZ will let you do that all year round wearing shirt and shorts..

Although it gets really hot during the summer

I see you're in Colorado... I've been there. I'd say its the same thing... just warmer..

There's only nothing to do in Phoenix if you're lazy. There's hiking and off-roading everywhere, nice bars/clubs in Scottsdale if that's your thing, a golf course every half mile, great weather from Oct to March, ski resoprts 2 hours away, Vegas 5 hours away, the crazy "spend more time in traffic than anything else" fun of LA is only 5 hours away, 1 good sports team and several below average ones, Spring training baseball in the spring, etc.

I moved here three and a half years ago from Indiana and have loved it. Of course, I'm a snow hater and I love the sunshine, so it's pretty much perfect here for me. Come visit for a week around late Feb-early March and you won't want to leave.

Moving out here from vegas. I say live in vegas it's 109 instead of the Ave 115 here.

All in all Phx isn' t bad cept the idiots who drive around every morning/night can't seem to keep thier cars from hitting one another. They do call it the suicide lane for a reason.

In vegas 2 suface street accidents a day and I thought that was stupid.

Here they have a list of people smacking into one another. On ave 6-10 accidents just on my way home in the afternoon and I'm sure thier more after I get home.

Your car insurance will surely sky rocket if you live here.
Rent is just outragious here, try and get into a house, I made a big mistake not getting into a house, now I'm stuck in an apt forever cause the rent is so high I can't save any money to get a house. they stick you every chance they get.

if you can get past all that, then come on down!

They do have an all techno/dance Radio station that helps wake you in the morning which is nice. 92.7

Took me awhile to get used to last call, living in vegas there is no such thing!.

The people from Arizona are bitter and angry all the time. you can tell the natives from the others, just look for the angry faces and they constantly blame everyone else for thier problems.

"if it wasn't for all the people from different states" lol

Good Stuff. I still love ya Val.

LOL... Dave I remember a time when 51st. Ave and Nothern was a frigging 2 lane blacktop with a stop sign.
Every Glendale police officer knew my horse ( she was an escape artist) and knew how to put her back in her pasture.
Believe me this place has gotten huge. Am I bitter... naw.. I like it here.
I travelled enough to know it's better than alot of places and it doesn't snow. A nice touch for someone who hates the cold.

If you think rent down there is bad, then dont move to Colorado! I was looking on rent.com for AZ apartments and a 2 bedroom, 2 bath is like 700-900. Here in Colorado the same place would go for around 900-1100!

Thanx for the info guys, but I am still confused because of all these mixed comments, but I guess I will have to come out there sometime and see what its really like.

Depends on where your looking. if you find an 2 bedroom for under 900 bucks here, your in the ghetto or in the middle of nowhere.

I live in aapt that's near 1K in a decent area not to much crime, but alot of accidents so my insurance is a bit higher.

I'm renting a 3 BR, 2BA, 2CG, 5 year old house on a cul-de-sac in a nice neighborhood for around that. I didn't know apartments were so high. I have to have a house for all of my toys
I moved from Gilbert to Fort Collins, CO and back. Believe me, Colorado housing is much higher than here.
Some people hate it here, some love it. I love it.
