Unhappy winter project update, it gets messy!

Ok the engine is out and I tore it down to the bare block. Well Ya know I didnt intend to go further than the short block, but I took the oil pan off to see if it really had a 4 bolt main like the guy I bought it from said it did (It didnt F ' er! I hate liers!), not only that but I saw that 4 of the piston skirts were chewed off~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~~!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Uh OH..... this could get more involved. I also found that # 6 piston rings were cracked and # 6 was full of crud and probably was not doing much in the way of propelling the car. Remember that my car was actually running ok, I saw no metal in the oil and the car was doing like 14.5's. On the good side everything else looks ok and the pistons were oem size so its never been machined. SO its all torn down and going to the machine shop tommorow where it will ge the .30 over deal and the heads will be inspected before I start the porting and polishing process.

So thats where I am......

Can you say engine rebuild kit from summit....

A buddy of mine took his oilpan down to re-seal it on his IROC. He found like 3 or 4 piston skirts inside. Know what he did? Took them out and put it all back together. The car is still running 3 years later with no ill effects

Good luck on your project.

Exclamation it gets worse~~

OK yes I might have been able to keep running the car the way it was for a while but thats just not me. It would blow up in the middle of bfe. ANYWAY I dropped allt he pieces off at the machine shop and he looked it over and shoped me how the crank was junk, and the block may be cracked (he needs to do more checking on that one). THIS SUCKS!!! If I ever get my hands on the last guy that was in this thing!!##@!&^@!!(&^(&^%$#!!# Anyway add another couple of hundies for a new crank and possibly a hand picked (by the machine shop) block. No the guy is not hosing me he showed me where and why he came up with his recomendations.

Dan the soon to be broke man

did I mention this sucks?

Yeah I know the feeling man. I just happened to stumble across the right parts that I needed for great prices. I know it i hadn't I would just be doing valve seals this winter.

I think if us 3rd gen guys actually had money we would all be driving LS1 cars or having perfect 3rd gens...but thats not usually how it goes

I know a guy that has a L98 short block out of a 91 Vette.. it has a rod knock but he might be willing to sell it for a reasonable price. I will have to wait until Monday to see.... I'll email you his number if he wants to get rid of it.

I have a couple of 010 350 4 bolt main blocks if you are interested. Standard bore. Plent of heads (nothing performance though) and all kinds of the accessory bolt ons (intakes - stock, manifolds, waterpumps, ps pumps, brackets, valve covers, etc
Drop me a line if you want to check out anything

Thanks for the offers guys.

Well at this point Im waiting on the machine shop to confirm the cracked block, he said it looks cracked but as to weather it is...... The crank is for sure screwed as are the pistons (gee nice engine eh?). Anyway the machine shop dude is talking like 100.00 for pistons, 125 for a good 2 bolt block, and 40 for a crank, another 70 to recondition it. So for like 335.00 Im in business with all fresh stuff that is guaranteed to be free of imperfections. Why a 2 bolt? Well for one its cheap, and the new blocks have a better rear main seal set up, most 4 bolts I have come accross are the old 2 piece style. The heads should be OK (please god!!) but Ill know for sure next week. If the heads are bad Im putting the brakes on everthing and saving up for a crate motor or a jasper deal. Timberwolfe any slp intake runners??? Also I would like to find a used electric water pump or a used underdrive pully set. This bird will be on the road and looking all pretty by next spring at least the body and electricals are in good shape (uh oh I better not speak, if I bend this thing up after all this work/money Ill SH_T!!!
