where can i get automotive training in the metro detroit area
ive posted topics similar to this before but i never seem to get the kinda response im looking for. i graduate high school next year and ive been looking for a trade school or something to go to that has a good automotive program. im not really into the whole college thing i just wanted to be able to go somewhere to get good training and get a good paying job in this field. im pretty much focusing on schools like Wyotech, and UTI, but something more local anybody know of any places in michigan like this?
Macomb Comunity College,Schoolcraft Comunity College,Oakland Comunity College. These offer exellent opurtunities for car stuff. You can even enroll while still in high school. Go to your local dealer and ask the TOP mechanics where you can go that is close. ASE ,ect.
Hey. I went to UTI in Glendale Heights Ill. Well a couple weeks ago I got a paper from them wanting to know if I was interested in teaching at a school that is being opened in Dearborn. You may want to call UTI and see when it will open.
Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti (not sure which it's classified under) is said to have a really good program. Their facilities are amazing though, I've seen them, damn good for a community college.
about how much did it cost to attend UTI, because that was (is) my first choice however im not that financially stable (i will have to pay for it myself, my parents wont b/c i blew a scholarship...long story) i was looking for a school like UTI or Wyotech or a trade school or something because im not into the whole college scene. i dont see why i should have to take say biology 101 and i wanna work on cars for a living...it just doesnt add up!
I went on a full Auto/Diesel scholarship, but dropped the diesal portion. I think it's like $12000 or something like that. I know what you mean about having to take other classes. UTI in Glendale Hieghts does not give you an Associates Degree, but the others do. All the other UTI school's are degree programs and have the same content. The state has different requirements so I did not get a degree which is really hurting me now. Call (708)529-2662 and see if they know when the Mi school is opening.
For the record, Schoolcraft does not offer automotive classes anymore. At least thats what they told me
I was told Henry Ford Community College had a good automotive program. I was looking into it at one time, as I have always wanted to try my own thing as opposed to working for someone else. I really am interested in transmissions in paticular. However, I changed my mind somewhat after talking to my trans guy who told me I make more a year than he does, and he owns his own shop. Considering I don't really work that hard, I reconsidered, for the time being anyhow...
Let us know what you find out. I would be interested in hearing how it works out for you.
