DO NOT get anything from the Dunlop SP Sport 8000 line of tires...
I ran a complete set on my first IROC. WHile cheap and good looking, I could smoke/haze the rear 285/40/17s at 45 MPH in second gear. Jeff...that was a mid 14 second car and it was uncalled for.
First gear was useless. I'd describe them as hard, smokeless, noiseless tires. The front tires also sucked because they would lock up VERY easily and the front end pushed extremely bad on the local Auto-X tracks.
I put 275/40/17 Nitto Drags out back and I really couldn't break them loose in first gear from a dead stop. My best 60 foot time went from 2.02 down to 1.80.
I would reccomend getting 17X9.5 to 17X10.5" rear rims and running a 315/35/17 Nitto Drag Out back. They fit beautifully. 17X11" seems too wide for them. And some Yokohama A032R's up front
Goodluck!

Jeff,
I work at a tire shop out here and one of the tire brands we sell I am very impressed with. TOYO. I have a set of FZ4's on the front of my Mustang that I am real happy with they are a H rated tire.Or you could step up to the TOYO T1S which is their Z rated tire. That too is very nice but kinda costly thats why I went with the FZ4. Sumitomo is another brand we sell.I would recommend the HTRZ for a performance tire they sell for around $100 a tire retail. They are pretty sticky and cheap. My friend has those on his Iroc and is real happy with them. And of course the 555 Extreme Drag which is on the Back of my Mustang.Very Happy with those.
Other brands I have owned and had good luck with. i really like the Bf goodrich Comp T/A ZR's,I have Goodyear GSC's on the Camaro right now. They work but I don't really care for them.I see alot of Goodyears come back to our store for Manufacturers defects.Needless to say I am not impressed with Goodyear at all.
Hope I helped,If you have any questions get a hold of me.

Jeff,
Go with the Toyo T1S's. I think you would be happy with those.I can ask my boss what our cost is on them so if you buy them you will know about what wholesale cost is.Maybe you could dicker with em a bit.

chris, i would love to pick up some pilot sports as i loved my pilots i had on the 16" wheel. problem is at a hair under 500 a tire.
man i can't justify it no matter how good the tire is.
i would love to have them, but what would be the next comprable...something like the bfg kd's?
my pilots had a pretty high tread wear.........but again they were 16's. i don't expect these to outlast the old ones; i just don't want them to burn up in a summer through normal good care...figure i had better get some "cheaper" tires while i get use to the new wheels.

Jeff,
I asked my boss today about cost and he asked me what size.I told him 245 and 255 50 16's.By the way it sounds you have upgraded to bigger wheels. What size are you exactley looking for?? I will ask him tomorrow if you tell me what size ya need.

http://www.intercotire.com/html/radial_racing.htm I have no experince with this tire - Yet!!
You can't go wrong with Michelin. As was said previously, you get what you pay for. I personally would avoid all the Kumhos, Pepboys, Tiger-Paws, Dunlop, Falken, and all those other brands that are cheap.
Personally I have had good luck with the Michelin Pilot XGT Z4, and after those wore down, I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
(BTW they were all the 275 40R17).
What size exactly are you looking for? Believe it or not, you can get a decent deal on tires from Sam's Club or even Walmart.
I know that I will catch flack for this, but I bought my latest set of tires from Walmart and saved about $75 than if I would have ordered them.
Or, find a killer deal on some tires you like and then take it into Discount tire or Belle Tire and they would probably match it.
Good luck with whatever you get.
