Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

I haven't put then on yet but did go check out my new MT ET Street Radials. Man, they make my Nitto Drags feel like a set of normal tires. They are so soft... I can't wait to get them on the car (Next Week). Then I plan on hitting the track the following week.

I can only imagine what the launch will feel like with the new 3800 converter and the MT ET Streets. I had 1.74 60' times as bests before. Any guesses what the new 3800 converter and a much sticker tire will net for 60'? Besides possibly the need for a new rear if it hooks dead.

I would recommend checking these tires out if you are in the market for a sticky 17" tire.

Thanks,

Bill

Sweet. Let us know how they do. I'm contemplating getting some but I'm not sure if I should put them on my stock 16's or the 17in. zr1s I have. Good luck at the track.

You should get a high 1.6 sec 60' with the new setup. I hit a 1.71 with mine on BFG's. Just make sure you stall it up good before you launch. The difference between a 1600rpm launch and a 2400rpm launch is amazing (almost .2 seconds off your ET amazing - ask me how I know ). Best of luck & I hope they prep Milan up good for ya!

I'd figure out the weight difference between both the 16" & 17" wheel and tire. Then go with the lighter setup to get the better ET. It'll probably end up being the 16" rim/tire combo.

MT'S are stickey no doubt but if you want to drive your car on the street nitto's get way better life to them...

but hey, if you can afford new tires every other month go for it!

That was what I was thinking to myself when I felt the tires last night. All I could think of was man these won't last long. In fact, I posponed having them put on until next Friday just to get another week of life out of them

They were $400 installed and out the door.

I just wonder if my 10 bolt will last? This converter will foot barke to 3,000 RPM. I am used to my 2800 stall that I would just flash off the line. I am wondering what way will work better? I guess at Milan Foot Braking would give me my best chance. I can't imagine getting away with falshing a 3800 converter at Milan and getting it to hook well with anything less than a true ET Street or Slick.

Thanks,

Bill

Re: Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

I love my MT Street Radials. Even on a poorly prepped track last fall where most guys were spinning off the line I was able to dead hook after a pretty good burn out.
I ran consistant 1.67 ish short times with a 3500 stall on MT's so you'll be happy with your results. Let us know how you do.

Re: Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

bill, in a back to back shoot out agains MT SLICKS (not et streets, true slicks) your tires were no diff. et's, but the mph was up against the slicks due to the stiffer sidewalls dont bleed off MPH like slicks will. less rolling resistance at high speeds. I think that car was a low 12 sec. car that they tested with if I remember right. ofcourse, that was a 15" tire.

You'll like them. Your 10 bolt probably won't. At least you don't have a 6 speed like me. Here's my results on these tires:

Re: Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

Bill don't worry about the ten bolt. I ran mine for 5 years and the last year was with the heads and cam pulling middle 1.5s to low 1.6s all year.

You'll have to play with the converter to find out what it likes. Some converters hit the tires harder when you flash them, some hit them softer because the car actually starts to move before full torque hits the tire.
Try a couple of launches at 500 rpm intervals starting at 1500rpm for the bottom so that you keep the drive line and suspension loaded.

Re: Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

I've got about 20 passes on my 255/50/16 MT DR's. Ran at two different tracks and they hooked awesome. Only time I spun was when I did a launch off the rev limiter trying to find the limits. I have an M6 and I ease into the clutch vs a straight dump to help ease the shock on the rear. Best 60' was a 1.85 and I'm still learning the tires. I dropped 3 tenths off my previous best ET with street tires. Went from best of 13.008 on street tires to 12.69 with the MT DR's.

Re: Talking ABout Sticky Tires!

Bill, I've got a set too mounted just for the track. Night and day difference compared to the Nitto's. I think the BFG's are a better (stickier drag radial) but I like my Nittos. They work good on the street.
