SBC and powerglide problems

I bought a 69 Camaro convertible a year ago and have been procrastinating on working on it, like installing a new heater core and a bunch of other small stuff it needs. Anyways it has a brand new gm 350 crate engine, carbuerated, the water pump on the engine has no provisions to attach the heater core. I found this kind of odd, first time I've ever seen that, anyways I need a new water pump, I can put either a long or short pump right? All that will do is change which side my alternator goes on I think. I need to change my alternator mount anyways, it's mounted on the driver side right now, ya know one of those lower brackets that bolts in with the header bolts and it has this crappy upper arm bolted to the cylinder head that bends back when you punch the accelerator. Also I'd like to swap the powerglide with a 700R4 sometime, I know the bell housing should bolt right up to the block but I was wondering about the input/output splines, tailshaft length-will I need to get my drive shaft shortened? Someone told me that I might but he wasn't sure. Also will I have to fabricate a mount for this new trans or does someone make a mount for 1st gen Camaros?

cool sounding car. always loved those.
you need to see what the rest of the brackets/pulleys are. short of long. there prolly long, but they all need to match. if you dont have any brackets now, then just pick which one youwant and go w/a set from march pulleys. thats the best way. I wish I had the money to do that. instead I have a cobbled together set and a gettoriged waterpump to alt. bracket. infact, thats how I got stranded at mid.mich. last year at M7

the 700r4 will bolt right on, but the tranny crossmember will need to be relocated, and the driveshaft shortened. plus dont forget about the shifter. Ive seen the mags. run articles on modifiing the stock shifter by replaceing the plate w/the notches in it.

anyways, your best bet would be to check out the "classic" forum.
good luck w/the project. chris

And your input/output slines are different. So its time for a new convertor and yoke.
Your going to need to buy brackets for your carb for a TV cable setup too. If you dont install the TV cable your trans will be smoked in no time, if it even shifts.
And 700R4`s suck ***. If I were you, I would atleast put a shift kit in the thing or have a mild build. They are not strong transmissions by any means in stock form. I dont care what they came out of or what anyone says.
For the mount, you can either drill new holes, or make a plate the the x-over kit for a 3rd gen.
Its basicall a plate that bolt on thje oem x-member where the trans usually bolts, then the new trans bolts to the plate.
