Reward yourself with happiness - adopt a Rott or any animal!

Yes, this is nearly a carbon-copy post of the one that I made two years ago
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57121
Just part of my holiday tradition. So far, no one has taken me up on my offer in two years.

What offer? Read on...

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I dunno it is is because the holidays are here or I am just feeling thankful for our dog and how happy he makes us or what. I just felt like posting this. I may only make this post once a year or so, I don't plan on making a big deal about it.

A few years ago, my family adopted a dog from a Rottweiler rescue here in Michigan (http://www.rottweilerhope.org). The dog we chose was half Rott, half Doberman. No one seemed to want him because he was a mix, but we didn't care and are glad we chose him because he is the best dog I ever had.

He is smart loyal, obedient, gentle, protective and one hell of a great dog. For a 120 lb. canine, he is one of the best friends I ever had. Many people from this board have been to my house and are amazed at how relaxed he is (my 8 year old can climb all over him with no worries). Granted, not all dogs are that way, but ours sure does go completely against any stereotype about him and many others do as well. I think it is a shame that many great dogs are never adopted because they carry certain stereotypes. If raised and trained properly, big dogs can have even bigger hearts.

We have never regretted getting him, and I wish we could get another one. I would like to suggest to anyone reading this that if it is within their means, please adopt one or ANY animal that needs home.

If you want a Rott, head to http://www.rottweilerhope.org and check out all the great dogss that need homes! That is where we got ours.

If you adopt a dog from http://www.rottweilerhope.org. I will personally give you $100 cash to help pay for the adoption process. We can hardly afford that, but I want to make that offer anyway and I will stick to it because my family loves our dog and shudders to think of all the great dogs that need homes and someone wants one but can't afford to adopt one.

If a Rottweiler is not your style, just find your local animal rescue or shelter and find a new friend. If you cannot have an animal but care enough, please donate to a local shelter or rescue. You would be surprised at how good any of that will make you feel.

Just wanted to mention this to anyone interested. E-mail me if you plan to adopt a Rott from http://www.rottweilerhope.org and make arrangements with me on helping with the adoption payment. I am serious, there are some great dogs looking for new owners! Check it out!

Thats an awsome offer Jason...

We got our dog (shepard/somthing mix) at a local Humane Society in 1997 (i think) and since he died last feb, we've really missed having a dog around the house. After we get back from vaction we're probably getting another, not sure exactly what kind, but definatly not an ankle biter. Apparently Greyhounds make awesome pets and I know my mom's been looking at those as well at whatever esle is on the pet adoption websites that day.

I'll let ya'll know what we get, probably in the new year!!

Do you know if any of the dogs have papers and are they already spayed? My brother has a 1.5 year old male (140+ pounds already) and he was thinking of getting a female to bread it with.
I have an australian cattle dog and a boxer but when my brother brings his rott over for the weekends it eats more than both my dogs put together, those dogs can eat.
Thanks for posting this, all of those dogs need a good home. My family has had several dogs both expensive pure breeds and dogs from the pound and the dogs I have had from the pound have always been the best pets (except the fact that my 110 pound boxer, he thinks he is a lap dog)

I love rotts! and pretty much every other dog, but that's besides the point! that is a great offer, and there are so many good "mutts" looking for homes! we got woodson at a shelter where he was the last of his litter, the runt weighing in at 3.5 lbs and tonsilitus....now he's a healthy 65# and pretty much our kid......he's a pit/boxer, so it's sad that so many people won't give him a chance before they even know him........here's a bunch of pics:

Rotts rule!

Here's the one that the Missus and I work with- http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/majestyrescue.html

The woman who runs it is tough as nails, but she puts the dogs first, always.

If anyone is even remotely considering adopting, (here in the mid-atlantic region) take a look.

Both of our dogs are rescued Rotts from high-kill shelters, and it's been the best thing we've ever done.

We adopted 2 puppies over the weekend. They're both mix breed but from the same litter. Both are female. Named them Holly and Mandy.

I'll get pics up eventually, I don't have a camera right now.
