'nother dumb question

Just tied up the loose ends on the converter install. I had to put the tranny in neutral to get the driveshaft lined up at the rear end. Now the shifter won't go into Park I have the tranny linkage in Park now with the shifter cable off and the shifter still won't go into Park. Any clues?

I pulled the cover off the shifter and it went into park. Must have been hanging up on the cover.
