Exclamation Need Steering work done - DET area

Kind peoples of CZ28-land:

I have a 95z, that has an issue with power steering, and steering in general. Mostly, its got little or no assist from the power steering, its a beast at low speeds. Even then, once I am on the road, its still pretty much not there. On rare occassions, it still works flawlessly, for about 10-15 minutes, then... gone again. Worse, when out and about, the steering seems very imprecise and sloppy - rodeo steering, my Dad used to call it. I have checked the fluid, I have changed the fluid, the level never changes, the PS pump seems to operate fine, it just... doesnt... power.

SO what I am looking for is a shop to take it into, where someone can figure out what is doing this and how to fix it. And tighten up the steering in general, while we are at it.

Can anyone recommend a good shop that handles this kind of work? I work in the North Suburbs, live out on the Far-West... but I am not opposed to taking it somewhere that it will get done right.

Thanks!

well, your timing is crappy. I live in waterford and do lots of side work at home. but, Im way too busy already to take on your job now. but, I could do it at work, and try to save you some money over the typical shop prices. but the shop charges $83/hr. all I can really do is take off like either 10 or 15%, and try to charge you less amount of hours then normal. I work in farmington hills at bob sellers pontiac/GMC.

as for your problem, its prolly the pump. mines doin the same thing pretty much at low engine speeds in my caprice (its an LT1 powered car also). trouble is, its hard to tell if its the pump or a blockage in the rack. Id have to guess its the pump though, cause typically if its a gear with blockage, it will have power one direction, and not the other. give me an email if you want to bring it to me at my work next week or whatever.

ps, where in waterford are you? Im near elizabeth lake road and hospital.

Chris,

I might just take you up on the offer to bring it in ... to Bob Sellers... I just want the damn thing to run right again. Spent most of the winter working on stuff, got the cooling system figured out, replaced a dead window motor, doing the clutch this weekend (hopefully) and once I get the steering fixed I figure its downhill from there... I won't be able to take it in until after April 1st, but I will look you up for sure when I am able.

PS - Just moved out of W-Ford a couple weeks ago, lived at M59 & Elizabeth Lake...
