Need advice on Nitrous.
Need advice on Nitrous.
Ok I might get some crap for this but here goes. I am going to be spraying the Mustang with a 150 shot this weekend I guess.I have alot of friends trying to coax me into this. Two of my buddies are from Texas and they have a friend that has been spraying his pretty much stock 5.0 with a 200 shot and no major malfunctions as of yet. That has been happening for @ 2yrs so I have been told. This car is my daily driver to school and work so I can't melt it down. The car has forged pistons from the factory. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?? I know I really should'nt be spraying it at all but What the hell
I'll give it a shot. The kit is a nitrous works Adjustible wet kit.It is running a NOS fogger nozzle. Please help,I can't melt this thing down.
Thanks
James

If you at least use a fuel pressure safety switch and get the rpms up at least to about 2500-3000 you should be alright. Personally, I would not have waited til the last minute to ask about nitrous
You won't melt it unless you go lean on the fuel or run too much timing. Retard timing 2* for every 50 hp shot. I'd try a 50-75 jet first. and test the system without the nitrous spraying into the engine to see if you have everything hooked up right. But Alas, once you try it you'll be hooked for sure

That thing will take a 150 shot without a problem, Id personally run a dry kit on an EFI car, but you probably will be OK. Just retard the hell out of the timing, youll probably notice the more timing you take out, the faster it will go, nitrous hates timing.
And dont forget to put in colder spark plugs or you wont have an electrode left

Yuck..
5.0l's need..
Colder plugs, adj fp regulator, a new fuel pump and atleast 24lbs injectors to do 150 safe... Much less a 200!!
Dont be stupid and blow up your car. The stock fuel system really doesnt support 125 but it can be done. You wouldnt believe the amount of guys who would come into ramchargers with melted plugs or WORSE because the cars ran soooo lean! you could see the plugs were ghost white!
makes me shudder

I think I have everything in check now.heres my plan.If ya see something wrong with it let me know. I dropped 1 heat range on my plugs running Autolite 24's instead of 25's.I went two sizes bigger on my fuel jet for a 150 shot to play it safe. 150 shot runs a 60 nos jet and a 38 fuel jet.(I am running a 40). I am disconnecting the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator since I don't have a afpr as of yet. I am backing the timing down to 6* to start.Stock is 10* and it is currently running 14*. i think that is about it.If I am missing something, please let me know.Alot of people tell me I have nothing to worry about ESPECIALLY with the settings described above.I hope they are right. I just got some Nitto Extreme Drags today too. I am hoping for mid 13's is this reasonable if I can hook?? I will let everyone know how it turns out and if I will be needing to buy my *** some new shoes.LOL Thanks for everyones input.

this says it all right here, i wouldn't mess with it............
but if your going to do it you had better have a hell of alot of fuel going for you. i know nothing about mustangs but on my own car i added a booster fuel pump and a slew of other things and it was for a 100 shot or less just to keep it safe.
do what you wish but 200's asking for trouble. don't forget that whatever the jettings are for a 200 as soon as you add more fuel your lowering the shot obviously so why not add a less of a shot with the right amount of fuel rather than trying to flood the system?
good luck with it.........try to get it on video.
Leave the vacuum line attached to the FPR. It will see pretty much 0 vacuum at WOT anyway and adding a vacuum leak will only goof up closed loop operation. An adjustable regulator isn't necessary (it will learn around rail pressure changes in closed loop before you ever get to WOT), but a larger fuel pump is. There is NO WAY the stock pump will deliver enough fuel to support a 150 shot reliably, but a 255lph in-tank should be plenty. Beyond that, base timing at around 7btdc should be a good starting point with plugs at least one range colder than stock and NOT platinum tipped. A 200 shot without specific tuning is pushing your luck on this engine.
Nitrous Result are in!!!!
Well I have some good news. I did'nt blow the Rustang up,so I will not be needing new walking shoes. I ran at Firebird Friday night and at Speedworld today. the car is majorly consistant. Pretty much every run I made had a 2.2 60 ft (down from a 2.4 previous) on motor it ran consistant 14.9's (down from a 16.0 previous) and on the giggle gas it ran consistant 14.3's. I made it to the quarter finals in my bracket before being eliminated by my buddys 95 Z28 ( Go figure) My big question to all of you Nitrous junkies is, i was running a 150 wet shot and I only picked up 6 tenths. Why?? I have been told that for every 100 shot you put on it is supposed to knock a second off.Is this true?? It was'nt a true 150 shot because The fuel jet was 2 sizes bigger than what was needed for a 150 shot just to be on the safe side. I still figured that it was putting out at least 125 hp. Am I way off with that?? I am still scratching my head on that one. Any input you guys can give me is appreciated.
Fuel jet size is a 40
N20 jet size is a 60
the 14.3 is also a personal best out of any vehicle I have owned. It is still definetly not quick enough. I see 4.10's in my future............Needles to say I am now Hooked on N20

You hurt your proformance by putting the bigger gas jets in! That was stupid, always run the right sizes! Extra gas floods the motor and bogs it! You should have went 13.8-14.0 with a 150 shot! and when did you hit the nos? spraying after going into second my wife took off over a second on street tires on e.t streets 1.7 seconds with 150 shot!

1. put the right fuel jet back in
2. bump the timing back up a couple degrees( you said you backed it to 6* from 14*) try 8*-10* and check the plugs.
3. add a few safety features like a FPSS and window switch so you're more consistant on when the juice comes on.
FWIW My car dropped from 14.40's to 13.60's on a dry 75 shot bone stock 95Z w/2.73's N2O on at 3000rpm.

I started spraying at @ 3000 rpm's. I was told by a friend of mine that has run Nitrous quite a bit to never spray below 3000. Devenomer, I am sorry that you feel that it was "Stupid" to run 2 sizes big on the Fuel jet. This was my first go round with N20 so I thought it was "Smart" to do that to make sure that I did'nt melt the motor down in my ONLY vehicle that I have readily available to me at this point and time. I know I could have knocked more time off with the correct jet. But the car is fairly new to me and I did'nt quite feel safe with it. The more time and tuning I get done to my car I am sure that I will eventually wind up with that correct jet for a 150 shot in there. I am learning as I go. We ALL had to start somewhere..........

You are right, we all had to start somewhere. I wasn't for you geting a Stang, but you are a big boy, and I would rather see you blow up that than the Camaro. So practice up your nitrious skills on that, and when you get back, we'll hook up the Camaro & get some 12's
