All of a sudden my oil pressure got low. The last time I got my oil changed they must not have put enough oil in, because as soon as I noticed i checked the oil and it was barely showing on the dipstick. Now my pressure is about 20-30 pounds all the time, and even less at idle. Do you think its the oil pump? and if it is how much are they, money is kinda tight right now due to the holidays. Please any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mac

 

How many miles are on it?? You say your ran it low on oil?

If so an oil pump replacement will be a band-aid.

 

Yes I ran it on low oil, very low oil. What can I do to fix the problem? I have 146,XXX miles on the car. How much is an oil pump and how long would it last? I would really love for this car to last another 6 months. Thanks again for the help!!!!! Oh and by the way the car is a 98 Z28.

 

was the low oil light on?
could be a pump but if it was low enough on oil it may have hurt the bearings

 

Oil pump for an LS1 is about $100 but it's a lot of work to change one and some ancillary parts too. Buddy had his changed at a dealership and it was $700. After having it changed the oil pressure was no better and we now feel that it's probably the oil pressure sending unit that is the problem as the car runs well and has no lnocks or anything. It's also a 98 Camaro Z28.

 

My car has no knocks either. It seems to be running like normal. How many miles are on your buddies car? I have quite a bit of miles on my car, 146,500. No low oil light came on, I just noticed that my pressure was low so I checked it when I got home. Thanks for all the help so far, keep the help coming. I need all the help I can get!!!!
