Looking for a Shop to fix my...

... freakin window motor. The Driver side window motor is cooked, won't go up and down anymore. Stuck about 3/4 up. Not good for when it rains.

Anyways, I moved here from Chicago area not long ago, and I wondered if you guys could point me at a shop that can do this without dealer level pricing. I talked to a guy at a local Chevy dealer, and he said $405 to install a new one. Thats like ... damn near a new set of TIRES... for a WINDOW motor...

Mostly I work on the car myself, but this job looks really screwy, and I dont want to screw it up worse and break the glass or something.

So if someone knows someone, who knows anyone ... let me know!

Thanks a bunch, and hope to see you guys on the road soon...

Its not a hard job. just need to grind off a few rivets. With a dremel and a small punch it's simple.

I wouldnt say simple at all. not THAT hard, but not quite simple. it will take you a few hours, esp. if you havent done it before. it is kinda nerve racking when you go to break off the rivets. I picture the glass shattering every time I did it. I would do it for you, but I have waaay too much goin on still. and Im sure you cant wait.
if you are goin to tackle it yourself, you'll need a big rivet gun as the only special tool. also, after you remove the screws from the door panel, pull straight up on the door panel, not out like most door panels.
good luck

Ok so I took the inner panel off the door last night, and looked at it a little closer ... how the heck do you keep track of the internals with all that bracing in the way?? I can see the Rivets, and imagine they won't be hard to remove, but I can barely get my hands in there to grab the thing - how hard is it to get the new motor in place and connected>?? And I dont have a rivet gun to re-install with ... can't I use nuts and bolts? Looks like one of those highly annoying jobs.... lol

Thanks for the feedback so far, maybe I will attempt it this weekend.
