Lapeer vs. Milan

I'm looking for some input as to whether it is worth my effort to make a trip to Lapeer. I have been to Milan 3 times and I can get better traction on the street. Their track prep for test-n-tune is apparently lacking. Is Lapeer better or worse for starting line traction? If it sucks does anyone have a suggestion where I could go? Last time I was at the track I ran a trap speed of 109.3mph and only 13.3 because of a 2.3 60'.

Also does Lapeer require a driveshaft loop, it says they do, but do they inspect that well?

Thanks,
Brian

I couldn't believe Milan thursday night... 2.3 60 foots and big tirespin from a mid 15 car... Never been to Lapeer but I'm usually willing to try any track a couple times to get my own opinion of it. Goodluck!

Lapeer is not a bad track. For those who haven't been there in awhile, they repaved the entire 1/4 mile in 1998, they recently paved the staging area with asphalt all the way back to the stands, you're tires now do not pick up gravel anymore. The return road does leave a lot to be desired but you're not supposed to go down it at 40 mph anyway. On race days the starting line is prepped just as good as anywhere else I've been and that includes Stanton. I pull the same 60' at Lapeer as I do at Stanton. And the best part is there shut down area is the longest of any of the tracks around here so you don't have to keep frying your brakes.

This is what I'm talking about. Been there three times and every time myself and everyone I talk to in the staging lanes can't get any traction. I want to know if it is me or the track.

I guess I'll try Lapeer on Sat in a couple weeks and see for myself.

Thanks,
Brian

Lapeer is a ****hole. The owners are jackasses. They give two ****s what you think unless you drive a rustbucket 14second car. Their tech rules change daily. The track still has a dip in it. If you are staging in a manual in one of the lanes, your car will roll backwards. The timing shack is a joke. and Ubly isnt much further away.

Other than that, Lapeer is great

Well I am going to throw my 2 cents in. Friends were at Ubly this weekend and they said it was a skating rink. The starting line was better at Lapeer, and they (Lapeer) were spraying the track about every 5-7 cars on a Saturday.

These posts always make me laugh, everyone has thier opinons on tracks, everyone says Lapeer sucks. I have seem cars go 8.9x's to 9.xx pulling the front tires 1-2 feet in the air at Lapeer. It's fairly close and a great place to get things tuned in.

Then there is always the street, but people need that piece of paper.

The issue with Lapeer isn't track prep. You rarely ever hear somebody complaining about traction at Lapeer. The reason they sucks is because the facilities are bad, because it costs more to run there than anywhere else even though they have the worst facilities, unless you are a regular they treat you like ****, and lastly,, their track rules change from minute to minute based on the mood of the tech person.

Lapeer sucks! No doubt about it. I've been there several different times over the course of several different years. It sucked then, it sucks now. Milan isn't the greatest either unless you like less traction than what's available on the street combined with 3 wheel spinning runs in 6 hours.

Do yourself a favor and go to Ubly. Better yet, go to Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton. That's a trip I doubt you'll regret (unless you hook so hard you break something).

When I went to milan, I could not hook at all, my car would spin through 1st, then 1/2 way into second, it was redonkulous. I've been to lapeer before and it sucked, but i seriously think they have better traction, i'm willing to go there 1 more time and check them out to see if it's improved, i may be doing that soon.

Exactly. I never talked about traction or prep. Those are the only things that dont suck there. I go to the track to have a good time. I have yet to have a good time at Lapeer.

I have only been to the track 3 times, and hanging out and talking to the other people is fun... But last time, I was so irritated about not getting my car to hook up I didn't have too much fun.

Does Lapeer require driveshaft loops?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into Ubly too, Stanton is a heck of a drive, esp. if I break my 10-bolt.

Depends on what day, what you look like, and if bubba the tech guy got to nail his daughter the night before.
I seem to remember Taner not being able to run slicks there once cause if you had nitrous and slicks and a 6 spd, they had to have a scattersheild. However once the Vette Taner was with put the slicks on his nitrous slicked 6spd with no scattersheild it was ok.(may have been the vette couldnt go but the z could, it was one or the other though)
