I need a mechanics help.

My winter car died on me today. I have a 96 Grand prix se with a 3.1 engine. The car started right up and warmed up for 5 min. then i drove a 1/2 mile and i just died in the street. The car just cranks over it only tries to start when i put the thottle all the way down. I thought it might be the fuel pump but i can here it when i turn the car on. Ant help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Often when they die shortly after warming it's the ignition module under the coils. Had a Corsica 3.1 do that.

When cranking a vehicle with the pedal to the floor, the PCM sees the TPS at WOT and puts the PCM in clear-flood mode. Suspect a fuel concern is the problem here.

I checked the fuel pressure and its at 46 psi which is to the book spec. I finally got someone to check for any codes and there was 1 Random/Multiple cylinder misfire. I cleared the code and put on new spark plugs and wires. I check for spark and got spark from each coil pack, Plug wires and spark plugs. So fuel and spark is ok, I am lost to what it could. Des anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

wow, sorry I havent been on here in a while. been busy. have you resolved this yet? you got good fuel pressure, but what about FUEL DELIVERY? check to make sure the fuel inj.s are geting an on/off signal while cranking with a test light between the 2 wires in each inj. connector. the light should blink in a similar pattern to the spark. Im goin to suspect a pcm here. if its under the hood, you could visually inspect it. those older obd1 pcms were almost all alum. case modules. they would get corroded and split or spread apart and then water gets inside. game over. if its inside the car, then try the tap test.

if youve gotten it fixed, what was it?
