I need a mechanics help.

I just bought a project car. A 86 monte carlo ss. It runs bad the car starts ok but when you put it in gear it has a bad hesitation and would gradually picks up speed when at wot. I need some one to look at it and tell me if i need a new engine or if its some that could be fixed. I live in Warren. Please let me know i'm free all day this sunday. E-mail me at possessedz28@yahoo.com Thanks, Dave.

thats a great place to start. the pump should be cheap for that car too. also make sure the air filter isnt dirty. just some basics. does that car have a throttle body inj. or is it a carb? what about plugs, dist. cap, rotor ? all in great shape? whats the timing set at? I would totally come help you out if I could, but Im up to my eyeballs in things to get done already.

if its not smoking, knocking, backfiring, the eng. should "probably" be fine, and not the problem. is it a 350 or 305?

gradually pick up speed as in the eng. is slow to accelerate or the car is slow to accelerate, but the eng. revs ok? makes a big difference.

yeah no time at all. otherwise I would. just starting a heads/cam/fuel pump install for a fella and with the normal day to day stuff goin on with that no time to go anywhere. bring it by here I'll go for a ride with you though.

as for the th400, nope, didnt use it yet. still sitting here in the garage awaiting disasembly one day. all Im goin to use it for is the case and keep the rest of the parts as spare's. got a built th400 that has a cracked case but otherwise perfect working order. all that is eventually for my 86 Iroc that Im goin to build into a drag car IF I ever do sell my 95. but for now, it sits with all the other parts I already have for it.

yeah excellent idea about the plugged cats. its easy to think of when your driving a car that has the problem becuase it runs great sitting still, but start driving it down the road and the eng. just bog's.

The cats are gone it has long tubes with duel exhaust. Iam going to replace the fuel pump and see if that improves the problem.

what kind of carb is on it? whats the timing set at? are the secondaries not opening up maybe? is the float stuck shut and not filling the bowl with fuel properly? how many miles are on the engine? is it poss. the timing chain has stretched and jumped a tooth? just some more possibilities to check for.

Whould a blown head gasket make the car run like this. I do have some white smoke comming out the exhaust. its not alot but noticeable. I think i going to forget about getting this car on the road this year and get a new motor next year.
