Hey, Harold, and others with "TH" trannies behind an LS1...

What special accomodations did you have to make?

The reason I ask is: I keep hearing an lt1 4l60e is not compatible witht he ls1 motors due to depth of mounting or something. Well, the lt1 4l60e and the TH trannies are pretty much interchangeable as far as physical mounting depths, bolt locations, etc.

So my question is, how did you bolt up a TH trans when they say a 4l60e from an lt1 won't?

The availabilty of lt1 used torque converters is so much greater than used ls1 converters to the point where I'd be interested in reaearching the feasability of what it would take to swap either the tranny or the input shaft or whatever to make lt1 converters work behind the ls1 motor.

I have a 99 that my wife mainly drives, but she wants more power. A converter and gears will really wake the car up (along with a few other planned mods).

Problem is, I don't want to buy a $800 vigi or yank then decide down the road we need a different stall and have to spend the money again, etc. I like the idea of being able to pick up lt1 converters and using them. If it were my personal use car I'd be looking more toward swapping in a th350 or th400, but she is the main driver, the overdrive functions need to remain.

So bottomline, I am wondering what you had to do to make the TH trannies work and if I could apply the same mods to an lt1 4l60e or a ls1 4l60e so I can use more readily available converters.

Thanks in advance

So is this pretty much all I need to install an LT1 4l60e behind an LS1?

I don't need the cross member brackets etc I wouldn't think since the trans is the same.

I believe the input shaft is different. I specified that the convertor was going behind an LS1, so that the output on the convertor would be right. I know what your asking, but my thinking is that they will not interchange.

Call Yank & tell what you want to do, they should be able to asnswer your questions.

I got a TH400 that was used on an LS1 car. The input shaft must be longer or something, because I needed to have spacers made for the 3 bolts attaching the converter to the flexplate because they wouldn't mate up. Luckily I have access to a friendly machine shop.

Also, not sure if 350 and 400 converters are interchangable, but I could sell you a really nice one for an LS1 that supposedly can be restalled.
