hey guys,
this is a q about my friends 71 GTO.
the car seems to pick up a ton in hte second half of the track for some reason. his normal 1/8 mph is around 86-87 and his 1/4 mph is 109-110. this strikes me aas a lot of mph to pick up in the second half of the track. is this normal or is the car just working better in third gear than in first adn second?
the car is weighs 3880, has 3.73 gears, th400 tranny, 400poncho with a roots blower(about 5psi), and 28x11.5 et streets. most 60fts are in the 1.75-1.78 range and 1/4 ets are 12.4-12.2.

That seems pretty normal. I looked at some of my old time slips, and when I would run 108-109 in the quarter mile, my eight mile speed was around 85-86 mph.

Those trap speeds are normal for my car as well. Usually gain 24 mph on the second half of the track.

I concur! But... MPH is HP related! A higher HP car should add even more MPH in the last 1/8 mile. I pick up slightly more MPH because my torque converter locks at 95 MPH in third gear.
