gas price answer!
I watched a debate on C-span2 last night in fact where the Senators from different states were talking about ANWR and whether or not to open it up. They are going to be voting on it today, as it is a rider bill on some proposed economic improvement package. Seems kind of strange they want to open it up for the jobs it will provide right now, when they were/are also saying it is for the oil. When they are trying to slip this issue in without giving it the debate and attention it deserves it really makes me wonder what their intentions truly are.
Some facts that I picked up from the devbate were that we depend on foreign oil for 56% of our consumption needs, while ANWR would reduce that dependency by only 2%. They also said that if we were to close the loophole so that SUV's had to meet car standards instead of truck ones we could reduce our dependency on foreign oil by over 10%. Improving tire technology would reduce our dependency by 4%. And raising CAFE standards to 35MPG average wuld reduce it by almost 20%.
