Few questions about dropping in motor/tranny
Few questions about dropping in motor/tranny
I got a 94 lt1 from WP and now have some questions about putting it in.
1. Will I have problems using the 94 non vented opti when I am putting it into a 95z? (I would think it wouldn't be a problem)
2. Is it really as bad as people say putting motor in through the top? I won't have access to a lift for a while, and it will cost money to use the lift. I have 3 other buddies that are going to help. I am hoping that with the 6 speed tranny and everything out I could just use a regular picker to put it in.
3. I know this is pushing it but anyway to put the motor/ tranny in together through the top
?
4. The motor has 39,000 miles and has been sitting wrapped up since 99. Is there anything I should be worried about? Should I replace the water pump and opti while it is out just to make sure?
Sorry for so many questions this is the first time dropping in a motor.

Re: Few questions about dropping in motor/tranny
I can't answer all of your questions because i've never owned an LT1 car, but i have worked on them.
Its a lot easier putting it in from the bottom. And it also doesn't bang up the car like you will going from the top.
If the motors out might as well reseal it where they're known to leak. The intakes leak make sure and do that and if the oilpan leaks reseal that too. Then if i were you i'd put a new oil pump in it while you have the pan off just to be safe.

Re: Few questions about dropping in motor/tranny
Was the 94 LT1 motor out of a Caprice/Roadmaster or out of another Camaro ?
If it was out of a Caprice/Roadmaster it already has the Vented Opti and will plug directly into your Z28. If not, you will HAVE to use the camshaft, timing cover, waterpump, and Opti from the 95. The 94 opti and listed components will NOT work in a 95.
