Sorry to dredge up such an old post but....like was said before, this isnt Granholm's doing, but the EPA. Their justification is that theres an increase in air-quality related illness in SE lower MI, and that auto emmissions are largely to blame. Now maybe if there was ANY sort of public transportation available around here there would be less traffic and thus emmissions, but thats a whole different story.

Also, from what I gather, OBD2 cars will just get plugged into the scanner. As long as its not throwing any trouble codes, you pass. They probably wont even open the hood. OBD1 and older will be subject to the sniffer on a 30mph dyno test. Most of you LS1 guys should get through no problem, while people with older carbed and TPI cars(like myself) are gonna be the ones pulling our hair out at smog test time

Also, someone said something about safety inspections coming back as well? What was your source on that? I hadnt heard anything about that.

Democrat, Republican, what's the difference? They both **** everything up. When we vote, we vote for who we think will **** up less.

I agree! When there is an election you don't vote for who you like you vote for the lesser of two evils and hope you don't get screwed.
If this does get passed I think we should be grandfathered in with the mods we have to the date of the bill passing. I know it will never happen like that but it'd be nice.

Sorry but I know most of us don't wanna ride the bus with all the lowlifes currently using public transportation. Would you want to get mugged at a bus stop? Thats why it doesn;t work around here. But I get where you're coming from... Look at all of the cars in rush hour traffic. 90% of them have only one person in it. Not that anybody can even carpool around here
Maybe MI should have some carpool lanes like CA does... It may be a good thing??

Thats just the thing....maybe if there were more public transportation available, the stops would be more abundant and they wouldnt all be on dark streets in da 'hood. People other than low lifes would use it if it was at all accessible, and it wouldnt be so dangerous, since your odds of having at least one other repsectable person on the bus would go through the roof lol. And you make a good point. Seems like 8 out of 10 cars i see on the road around here has some soccer mom all by herself in an Expedition.

You know it's a good thing Granholm is going to regulate vehicle emissions again right?! Because you know the state of Michigan does not have a single problem more serious than VEHICLE EMISSIONS. I mean, school funding is in GREAT shape RIGHT?! Our largest city Detroit is looking frikken FANTASTIC! Our roads have never been SMOOTHER. We all know that major Michigan based corporations are not outsourceing jobs to Mexico FAST enough to keep up with the steady decline in jobs right?! So why not give more of a reason to drag Michigans economy off the deep end? I can not believe she has not considered the trickle affect this potentially can have in a state that is totally dependent on the automotive industry. If we were simply talking about petroleum suppliers or refiners it would be a different story, however, we are not. This is on our end.

Jebus cripes!!! Do you people not read??????? It's the EPA that's forcing the issue, not Granholm! The EPA is a FEDERAL agency.

Case is right. I have no love for Ms. Taxholm, but this is not her doing.

But please, if anyone knows the exemption date, please post! This is important!

That's precisely why we now have a "SHALL ISSUE"concealed weapons permit licensing system in this state. I imagine that once we get a couple instances of CPL equipped soccer moms putting down the bad guy, we'll see that the fringe lowlifes will be less likely to try rolling regular citizens at the bus stop for spare change.

Public transportation will then be safer.
