A contest...
I always thought the ZL1 was the rarest option/car.
An all Aluminum big block 427ci underrated at 450HP
I think the cost of the engine was $3,000.00+ bringing the Camaro ZL1 price well over $6000.00

I believe from what I have read/been told, That in 69 there were 69 1969 Camaros ordered with the ZL-1 option and 2 Corvettes with the same option checked. For a grand total of 71 ZL-1 optioned cars built in 1969 .I wonder if either of the Vettes are still out there and what they are worth now.Anybody know??

actually there wer 3 zl1 corvettes built 2 are know to exist, 1 is in Bowling green Kentucky, and the other is in the hands of a private collector the one owned buy Gm has a very interesting story if its true. rumor has it a S. american Drug lord owned it but it was seized by the Treasury Department under the RICO act, causing it to be sold at auction where GM purchased it , allegedly its the Most expensive item ever sold at a treasury department auction. Can you imagine bidding against GM at a auction for a car (BTW its yellow)
Rarest 1st-gens
I believe the '69 ZL-1 COPO Camaro was indeed the rarest of the first-gens. Apparently the last of the new ZL1 COPOs to be sold was sold from the Berger Chevy dealership in early 1971. It had been sitting there unsold for 18 months!
And, IIRC, They have been making Z28s since 1967. I believe there's a certain Ben Wenzel in Saginaw, Michigan (who is now probably retired from Delphi Saginaw division) who still has his original '67 COPO Camaro (with Z28 option) that he purchased brand new for use on the drag strip. The original 302 has only a few miles on it, and it's still stored. The car itself looks factory original, even though it has seen several thousand quarter-mile passes over the years.
