Can someone trouble shoot a laptop for me?
Can someone trouble shoot a laptop for me?
I bought a laptop from a board member...and I got screwed. One of these days I will write up the story...right now I am too pissed.
The laptop fired up when I got it, but the HDD made a little noise...then it cleared up and seemed ok. I only had it on maybe 2 minutes and then shut it off. Later that night I fired it up again. I tried to play a dvd in it and kept getting "video subsystem" errors. I ejected the dvd to insert another just in case. The computer thre a screen up saying it was going into hybernating mode. I tried to stop it, but couldn't. the thing was only on maybe 10 minutes, TOPS, and it was only left idle about 30 seconds before it went into hybernate mode.
Now I can't get it to fire up. I called HP tech support and they had me do a hard reset on it without the battery in it. Then they wanted me to fire it up using the AC cord and with the battery still removed. The light on the PS is on, but the computer won;t fire. When I put the battery in and hit the power button, the lights blink once, but that's it. nothing happens. HP won't help me any further until I can get them the serial number which is only listed in two places... on a label which the previous owner says "rubbed off" even though there is another label on it which is still fine. The other place it's listed is in the bios which I obviously can't get to...
Any electronics/computer gurus wanna give it a shot?
I wonder if the AC port is bad on the motherboard.
