Looking for some insight as to how much an engine dyno session works out to in the end.

 

Matt Swindel had his done over at wheel to wheel on his fast system for his 406 nitrous SBC.
I seem to remember it was something like 500-700 to get it setup and tore down off the dyno then there was the tuning time where he left with a motor tune and two nitrous tunes. I'm try'n to recall but I do think his total was in the 1700 area but there was 8 hours of dyno time used.

 

Damn, I figured it'd be high, but that's more than I expected. I was figuring more around 1k, but then again, you seem to get what you pay for at W2W.

Guys with dyno's are charging way too much in my opinion. $200+ per hour? That's overkill.

I'm not worried about a chassis dyno, I'm wondering about an engine dyno.

Assuming a $700 setup fee, W2W charged him roughly $125/hr for dyno time with tuning. Doesn't sound that bad to me, on par with the chassis dyno tuners I'd say. Where it gets ya is the $500-$700 it costs to assemble and disassemble the engine to the dyno.

you get what you pay for. in this case he got two things , a good dyno and more importantly a good tuner. (who now works for FAST)

 

Try Roush Racing in livonia on market st.last i heard chasis was $75.00.but i am not sure of the price for the engine dyno.just know you can hear it from across the street.the tech did say the engine dyno was open to the public
