Keep in mind that if these heads aren't already set up as described, you're probably going to spend 5 or 6 hundy getting them there. Also, I have a set of -781's available for $200.
They'll need all the work you described but are good cores.
I went with a closed chamber head on my 427.
Bottom line, you'll like the big block, big time. Just use quality
parts in the bottom end and personally,I'd bump the compression
up to the 10.0:1 range and run a larger cam ( I hate disappointing
performance).Of course mine isn't driven everyday........
I'm interested in the heads... ever get near battle creek, or even halfway this direction? No point in shipping them. Are they complete? What valve size?
My 049s are already as described, except for the final valve job as I am waiting for the valves to come ine. Then they get assembly (once I decide between which rockers I want)

If you can't bear to shell out the big bux for a quality set of roller rockers, you might want to think about getting a set of Crane's Nitro Carb stock-style rockers. They're stronger than stock and have more consistent ratios, but they're very reasonably priced.

Talking -781 heads

Timberwolf,
I don't really get out that way, but I'm also in no rush
to get rid of these.I can hold them if you want.As I said, they
will need all the work you mentioned in your post. They are
complete,but have small valves,and no port work.Like i
said, they're good cores. It sounds like you may be on the right
track with the -049's.
