anyone buy electronics online?

trying to get some new stereo equipment and it seems that online the items are half the price. they don't have "store" warranties but they have their own warranties and what not.

some items one can save as much as $1,500 on one item. what do you guys think about this sort of thiing? anyone buy electronics online and recommend a place? anyone have any bad experiences?

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

I usually buy all mine online anymore, either through ebay or sites like thezeb.com. haven't had a bad experience yet except for the $600 dvd player i bought, it works great but it doesn't play burnt cd's. that's just he way kenwood made it. by the time i found this out it was alittle too late to do much about it. not the stores fault, i just didn't know exactly what i was buying... best a local store would do on it was $1100, man i'd have been really pissed if i paid that!

just make sure your buying from a good source, people on ebay with lots of good feedback, don't take your chances on people with little or bad feedback. with stores post on sites to find if anyone has dealt with them first, i almost got screwed through one store before...

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

which store...

see there is one called indoaudio which has 18,000+ good feedbacks and maybe a few hundred bad. looks good and then you search the net to see that any sites they sponsored they were dropped from and many people complaining about slow shippments, broken product, etc.

does it have to be a guessing game?

i agree with you though the retail stores want double which makes you want to try.

The only thing that retail has on internet stuff is that 9/10 times the warranty is voided. With that in mind, I still buy mostly online.

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

see i'm fine with that but i just want to know i can trust the place i'm buying it from. i want the dealer to tell me all of the issues with the item, it's obviously cheap for a reason.

there use to be a store on the east side called civic music. they were just like these online places with dirt cheap prices and in house warranty. it was fine but now they have a new owner who decided to go "legit"... damn it. anyone know of a store like that in michigan?

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

lol, i know the new store, my buddy works there, yeah they are outta their minds on pricing! lol, the only people local i'll deal with are jim and rick daniels at wow electronics. but your still better off online if you buying anything of value.

only other way is to hookup with someone that works at a store and will hook you up with their discounts.

so anyone work at a store or can hook a board member up?

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

thanks for the comments, i suppose i'll keep searching. i mean some of the product i'm looking for for example is $1200 for an amp that online is $600 or components that are $1,000 a piece that online are $450. it's just to much to buy retail. i'd have no problem spending a little more for the insurance and authorized dealer but twice and sometimes more..

thanks anyhow.

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

the only real exp. thing I have bought online is a camcorder. if I had bought it from say sears or some store, I could have exchanged it for a new one. but the online warranty was like 90 days I think and ofcourse it didnt last much longer than that. but I think that was just bad luck. if you make sure the product has a warranty, it'll proly be ok. good luck

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

I bought all my car audio stuff from a seller called ike's electronics on eBay. They got their own website and everything. Their prices are awesome and the products were great. I even blew an amp in less than a week and they sent me a new one after I shipped back the bad one. The only thing I thought was wierd was I don't remember seeing serial numbers. I might have just missed them, but I highly recommend that company. Good customer service!

Re: anyone buy electronics online?

places that aren't authorized to sell remove the serial numbers. this voids the factory warranty but if you get lucky the place will have their own and be good about it.
