Exclamation AMD processor users

You guys using AMD processors, when you power on the computer does it say the exact speed of your processor? I bought a AMD Athlon XP 2700+ according to what it said on the packaging. But when I installed it and powered on it says Athlon XP 1500+ on the screen. The MOBO found my 1GB of Corsair XMS memory just fine.

Tips:

1: Flash your BIOS. You could have an outdated software package that doesnt support your chip speed yet.

2: Check your BIOS settings. I can underclock my chip from within the BIOS, that may be your case.

3: Check your FSB speed too.

Thanks Chris!! I downloaded the BIOS revision that supports the 2700+. I had left the BIOS settings at default, but I will check to see what they need to be set at for the processor.

How do I set up my CDRW drive to be a bootable drive? It wouldn't work as a boot drive last night so I had to download the XP setup floppies from Microsoft's website.

For the CPU you need to go into advanced chipset options and correct the set the multiplier for your CPU (In your BIOS)

And for your CDRom, you need to go into your BIOS and change the boot sequence so cdrom is first instead of your floppy disk drive.

I got rid of my XP 2000+ in exchange for a XP 1700+. Right now it's running at 2200+ (1.8ghz) and CPU temp is a balmy 35C. As soon as my other mobo comes back from RMA I'll push it up to around 2500+ or so...

Chad, I would guess it's all in your FSB and multiplier settings

I am going to start by upgrading the BIOS, since there are new versions available.

If that doesn't work, then I will look at the FSB & multiplier.

Yep, I had to upgrade the bios and then change the processor frequency from 100Mhz to 166Mhz in the bios and now is says 2700+ when I boot up.

Just got to finish loading everything.

Okay, I got everything loaded back up and ran the 3Dmark2001 SE with everything in the default settings and it came out like this. The processor is Athlon XP 2700+

Not bad huh
