2 people die while street racing at F body

gathering near Atlanta. 2 Camaros were racing on street in front of host hotel when 1 lost control and hit a pole ejecting unbelted rear seat passengers to their death.

Arrow I Preach on this continually...

... Ladies and Gentlemen... take the racing to a track! I know that everybody gets a little crazier at things like an F-Body get
together. It's a BIG BALL"S thing! Big ***** didn't save these victims... they took their lives

Remember those seatbelts too, kids!

I read about this yesterday, its sad and tragic.

My prayers and condolences go out to the victims families.

I hear you Kevin, every Sunday up here on cruise night, someone wants to go me.

When I tell them lets go to the track next weekend and race best 4 out of 7 they back out.

Then I say I will race you for the entry fee,and they still decline.

It is not worth it to race on the street, the price you might pay is too high in more ways than one.

It was a truly unfortunate and grizzly scene. Jason and I were in Atlanta for this event when it happened. We were up in our Hotel rooms asleep and woke up the next morning to see everything that went down on the News. The driver of the car also died yesterday afternoon as well, however the media hasn't picked up on that as of yet. Miraculously enough, a girl who was in the passengers seat survived the accident and only had minor injuries (from what people said she had a broken collar bone). I had nightmares last night of that accident after seeing the scene in the morning.

Street racing is not worth it as this instance shows. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the family and loved ones of those lost their lives.

I've read about this on 5 or 6 different boards now and even tho I didn't know any of them it bums me out to read about it. My condolences go out to the family and friends of the 3 victims, and I can only hope that the female survivor can get through this trauma.

Looks like they are pressing charges

against the driver of the silver Camaro.

Arrow BrettH is correct...

... even though we don't know them, and I have been to the 'big show' in Memphis twice, I moarn their loss. I went to the article hoping they were not names there I knew! Thank GOD, NO! BUT... They WERE F-Body brothers and we are a family

TATOMMY... thanks for your input, I can tell you are older and wiser too!

I speak from EXPERIENCE as I USED to do this same stuff. Rightfully, I should have been KILLED twice when my '69 Z/28
left the road at 100+ MPH, both times. Both times, me with NO seatbelt. I guess the good LORD or guardian angle were holding
me in the car.

Sad as it may be... you can say the driver murdered two friends and himself. Ya wanna explain that one to 'Peter at the Pearly Gates'?? Not me!

GOD BLESS you all and drive like adults, take it from someone who got LUCKY

That is just horrible. The only thing we can all do is learn from their mistakes, and try to make it so things like this won't happen again. One way to do that is to push legislators/business people or whoever can make it happen to open more tracks. I'm willing to bet street racing would cut down significantly if there was a track within a half hour of major street racing and cruising areas.

Imagine having only a half hour drive to the track. And not only that, but the track would be less crowded because people from an hour away would usually go to the track within a half hour of them. Then on big event days, people from all over can come but on normal nights, you will have just the local guys most of the time. I mean it's not the gospel, but it's an idea and instead of making punishments worse and worse, the government needs to be proactive and MAKE a difference. Nothing they have done so far has worked and that won't likely change until they do something along the lines of what I was blabbering about.

Just my 2 cents...

Arrow

I used to have a Dragstrip not 15 minutes away from little ol' Rives Junction (near Jackson). Anybody ever hear of Onondaga Dragway? Olsmobile was gonna sink a lot of money into it for testing after it closed in 1976. BUT... The local trailer park trash down the road voted 'NO' to it's reopening.

You guyz in the east had Detroit Dragway to go to. Guyz near Flint/Saginaw had Tri-Cities Dragway to race at.

I agree Sean... too many strips being closed, OVERBURDENING
the few left. Cost is outrageous too... $40.00 to race for the money in Modified Class at Milan... then when you get two TT's in because some peanut brain oils the track .

Less is not the answer, we DO need more, closer and cheaper!
