Winter Projects

It's that time again where we're licking our wounds from the long season, and licking our chops about winter improvement projects. What going on in your garage this winter?

I have absolutely no clutch left. Last burnout at Mason Dixon was a clutch burnout only and no tire rotation ah' in a big way. Soo it's at least a clutch for me and a fresh set of 4:30's.

Not a lot of changes here. New set of front tires (DOT for the Street Class), installation of a engine oil cooler, and a pair of real mufflers again for make the car legel for the Street Class. My wounds from last season were all caused by the driver.

1) Fix rear, probably can only afford a stock posi for now, unless Santa leaves a S60 under the tree, but I kniow I wasn't that good this year.

2) Replacing the Orange dryer hose intake on the SC with a hardlines setup and much larger filter.

3) Brake upgrade is in order.

4) Would like to do some cosmetic stuff too. Some interior repairs needed. Headliner is starting to drop in a few places, would really like to replace the stock seats too. I want to make some changes to the wiring harness under the hood just to clean up the appearance as well as making access to some of the stuff much easier. And got a few more parts to pull off and polish.

Freshening the engine and hopefully paint. I may need to find new wheels because my new tires are rubbing with the old ones - unless we can figure something out with the spacing. Also might adjust the ladder bars for more consistent 60' times.

I'm pretty new here. Got a 94Z. Got a nitrous kit coming from Nitro Dave and a set of 3.73's to put in. Then I guess I'll have to start worrying about getting traction.

hmmm, my winter project started last winter and I am still working on it.. lol

Going to my machine shop today to pick up my Jesel rockers and LT4 intake that has now been milled .050". Start putting the car back together!

I put the carpet and a couple of interior panels in last week. K member is in but the stock a arms are still on the floor needing to be painted.

brake lines still need to be done, trans is down at CPT now, 12 bolt still needs to be built also... probably going to run the 10 bolt first for some shakedown runs. That way I'll figure out what gears to get for the 12 bolt.

On the engine I still need to get push rods, valve covers, and a couple boxes of plugs to index them.

Looking to put the motor back in by Jan 1. have it running and on a dyno by Febuary.

Oh and Liz has to pop out "project Jr." somewhere in there too! Shes 35 weeks this Friday...

Not many people here "beat" on their cars. 99% of us are customizing, improving and modifying them. And I'll bet you find most people here take much better care of their cars than your average daily driver...

i can vouch for that. my one friend with his lancer.. rings are done.. he gets in turns it on and revs just to be an ***. then he floors it from everysingle stop sign and red light. He also engine brakes at every single light or sign. SO much smoke is coming from that pipe it is terrible. Me? I wash my car whenever I get the chance. I let the car sit and warm up before i even move it. I beat on it maybe once a day (just taken it down this one street once) but usually not even that much. Id like to go the the track. Im really trying to hit 12's.

Well, I thought 11.30s would be enough...Naaaaa...Now we are doing a stainless 3" true duals set up with an X and Edelbrock 304s dumped at the axle, 4.10s in place of 3.73s, 6 point CM roll bar with swing outs...might even go with QA1s/springs in place of the stock stuff, but I want to try to go faster/quicker with the stock springs/Decarbons...Maybe try some M/T 325 50 R15s to replace the 275 50 R15s....still thinking....

My luck, I'll go 11.40s

Before next season I will hopefully have the following:
  • 3.73 gears, decent posi, new axles, and reinforced rear (already installed, just need to fine tune it and adjust shift points)
  • SFC's (going in after the holidays)
  • HD rear swaybar (possibly going in after the holidays)
  • wheels/tires, Convo pro's and something sticky (maybe, they're still on the wishlist, but if I can't get traction I might have to hit up the credit cards)
  • adj. LCA's (maybe, it's still on the wishlist)
  • dropping about 120# off my current 3490# RW, including the itmes above, if I got them all plus removing a few things (i've already dropped 5# from the driver that I hope not to pick back up over the holidays or I may have to )

Aside from all that, with tuning the car and working on the launch I think I should easily be in the low 12's with bolt-ons, but we'll see...
