Insurance

Hey this saturday I am going to buy a 1995 Z28 Camaro. I don't have my licence so my insurance company will not give me an exact quote. And I have heard to many stories on how it could be 1400 or 3800. Its way too big of a difference in number to make sense. Heres the facts

I live in New Jersey
Male
Black 8 Cly Camaro
44K miles
17 years old

Can anyone give me an average on how much insurance is going to cost me. I figure around 3 Grand. If anyone can help me out it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Try getting an online quotation as a ballpark. Rates vary greatly by area and company so without a real quote anything you get from someone elses is serious BS.

You better be prepared to pay. Especially if you are gonna have full coverage. I'm not joking either, your rates will probably be around three grand. Just my $.02

I agree. That's if you can get a company to cover you. Also if you go on your parents policy their rates will be increased too.

I definately disagree. I'm 27, the car is pleasure use only, no points, lowest limits and a $1000 deductible and I still pay just abou 2k. Oh and I am with probably the cheapest ins company in NJ.

17, full coverage on a F-body will easily run you over $4k. More likely upwards of $5k if its full coverage. And as already stated, some companies may not even insure you. Get some quotes over the phone and on the net. Thats your best bet to see what it will cost but I have no doubt it will be VERY expensive if its your own policy and full coverage. If you can go on your parents policy your may be slightly cheaper, but theirs will go up big time. It *usually* works out that its just cheaper to get your own policy. Good luck and keep us posted. Dont be supprised if your $3k estimate, is a long ways off from what it will really be.

When I first bought my Z in 97... I was paying more for insurance than I was for the car. And I was paying $378 a month for the car. $378 x 12 months is $4536.... (for the car). Insurance was more than that.

Thanks for the positive outlook!

He's right though. I know a guy in my squadron with USAA who has a 98 Vette (which are only as much if not a little less than a F-Body). He's 24, one at fault accident 4 years ago, and one ticket. $5000+ a year. Insane. And USAA is the cheapest in the state IMHO.

Hmm

Well I kinda messed up. I will be going under my parents policy definetly. I have gotten a quote of 768 Every six months for full coverage if I am a driver on the plan with that car. Thats directly from Prudential, which seemed WAY to cheap. And I know that it goes up when I get my license, but even if it does I can't see it going up 3000$ more then I am already paying. My best friend with a 95 Stang (white) V6 is paying 3200 a year under his parents name. But this other person I went to school with paid only a mere 2700 a year for his 96 Z <Full Coverage under his parents name!. He had the same insurance as I do, so I based my insurance pretty much on his.
I want a Z sooo bad its incredible. I mean I am loosing sleep over it! I can't even think straight at school anymore because all I have on my mind is these damn camaros that I love to no end. And I just don't want to buy a Beautiful camaro only to have to sell it in a few month because the insurance is rediculous. I make only 10K a year where I work ( keep in mind part time and crap pay). Either way I hope I don't get the when I open my insurance envelope!
