The future for New York State Inspections
Yeah - roadside emissions bite! This is a step in a tough direction for you guys, but in the early stages it will be fairly easy to get around.
My car won't pass emissions but gets better gas mileage than a new Ford truck
. However, I have to watch for "the big white truck" as we call it (roadside emission testing).
An inspection in Texas is 40 bucks - passing or failing you have to pay the 40 bones. An emissions inspection used to test the car at idle and at 2,000rpms. Now, they put the car on a load simulated rollers (like a dyno).
Big brother is getting tough on us.
However, I have to agree with you guys - These aren't for the environment, or for the better of mankind. These are all about revenue. That's what makes me mad about the whole deal.

Dave,
I agree tax is tax no matter how ya wanna slice it. Halfway through my statement I realized I was talking specifically about sales tax. And I guess all things considered, I'm surprised they don't...yet.
BTW, I'm doing pretty good, damn busy, but good. Oh, and instead of spending money on my car, I bought a new (faster
) snowmobile
. How about you, are you able to make it on the 20th?

yup nyc has had the sniffer 4 a while. sucks....and taxes suck...gotta pay federal tax, state tax, and a city tax to live in nyc. then they seem to raise the price of everything, especially traffic voilation tickets, every year. I usally like the city, but Im really starting to hate it these days.
Delaware has had a sniffer test for years, easy to get past. now they went to scanning OBD2 in lieu of the sniffer, and i am SCREWED. Swapping to dfi just made my car illegal,o well,i'll find a way through that.
also be glad you arent in Cali, before Gray Davis left office,he triple registration/inspection taxes,i read where it cost a guy $750 some odd dollars to tag his 2002 Chevy truck for 1 year.Ahnold has since removed that bill.

I heard they will have the OBDII test in '05.
The whole thing gives me a headache because I have mixed feelings about it. Most of you know that I have spent a lot of $$$ making my car "clean but mean". It runs though cats and will pass a sniffer test. And I really am fond of breathing, really I am. However, us car people are a relatively small portion of the population. And any decent running fuel injected car, even with no emissions equipment, has to make far less emissions than some of the junkers running around, diesel trucks, etc.
If there is going to be stricter testing, there at least ought to be some reasonable exemptions for auto hobbyists. I dunno, it gives me a headache. And I agree, this is not about clean air. It's about political correctness, revenues, etc.
