Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
Hey everyone i just recently sold my 1994 Z28 and picked up a beautiful show room condition 98 SS with just under 21K miles. Well the problem is i miss my lt1 style car and driving it already. This car will be stored in the winter as was the last one and i drive a 1996 jeep cherokee classic from november till april, But with my little brother turning 16 soon hes going to be getting the jeep to drive so i need another daily driver. I was thinking a 4 door 4wd blazer since you can get a decent one under 7000 but with how much i miss my lt1 car i was thinking i could pick up a decent stock or close to stock A4 one with traction control and put snows on all 4 stock rims and it would be a good daily driver. My question is does anyone drive their ls1 or lt1 cars everyday even in the snow and if so how is it?
Re: Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
I drove my Trans am every day. It sucks on the snow, but I had 400RWHP, Drag Radials on the back and stage 4 clutch
Just put some real snow tires and you will be good for driving in the light snow.

if the snow is deep you'll get stuck, i had that problem with my 87 TA. it's really bad if you have posi, the car wants to break loose all the time. I drove my 87 TA for 2 years straight, included NE ohio winters and only ditched it once. But it had pretty good tires, auto tranny and open rear end. I'd just get something FWD so you don't have to worry about calling somebody to pull you out of a ditch...
Re: Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
you might be alright if you put alot sand bags in the back or something heavy.just get as thin of tires, that can fit on the car, and you will be good to go up to snow depth of less than 3 inches. these cars are no different than 2wd trucks (except for clearance)which is what a blazer is untill u switch over to 4wd. hell i live in north east pennsylvania and i have a suv and i barely used 4x4 unless i need to go up a hill, then ull have a problem. just get couple hundred pounds of weight in your trunk and thin knobby tires, which they do sell i seen them my self, but i dont remeber where i seen them, mabe tirerack.com or something.

I drive my car in the snow as well. It's my only car. I use Dunlops DS1 snow tires. There great in the snow. They don't handle at all and are only rated for 99 mph. I choose these tires because of there snow traction and nothing else.
Re: Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
I do as minimal as possible on my V6.
I have junk wheels/235 tires just for the winter, weight helps, but I still hate the thought of driving it in the snow, it's really not that comforting.

Re: Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
Mine's a daily driver so yes,it does go out in the snow on occasion as long as it's not very deep.It really does suck in the snow but I know it's mainly because of the wide tires & that if I changed over to a narrow tire & wheel pkg it would do a lot better,I just chose not to.If the snow is really bad I either get a ride with a friend or my wife gets a ride & I take her Trailblazer. When my '84 Camaro was a daily driver it didn't really give me much of a problem in snow but it has 70 series tires on it & that makes more difference than the light weight tail end of the car
Re: Anyone daily drive their fbody in snow?
Daily driver in the snow, I have 245/40/ZR18 all season Continental Contiextreme tires on those wheels, they are ok, but if I make a dead stop on a hill I have to burn the tires a bit to get to the ground, then I can get moving a bit and go; but the more miles I put on them, the less tread, and the less snow traction....I would suggest true snow tires maybe 225 wide on some stockers.
