Question z28 newbie with a couple of questions

Im negotiating right now to buy a 1994 camaro Z28, with automatic transmission. Im not a big fan of automatics, but the deal is so good, its pretty hard to let it pass. Would it be a good idea to buy it and then change the transmission to a 6 speed manual?? also i would like to know the gas milage for the 94` z28`s.

Thanks guys

Diego

I would save yourself some heartache and just find a 6spd if that's what you really want. The official mileage listing for a '94 Auto is 17mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway. 6spd's are similar with 17 in the city, but 26mpg on the highway.

the swap will cost around $1200-$1500 judging by what people pay here - if you do it yourself.

gas milage is in the upper lower twenties for autos, md 20's for manuals thanks to the TALL 6th gear.

GM makes damn good autos- I like them anyway. Give it a shot and a converter. you might grow to like it. Its really responsive, confident and firm shifting.

4L60 is one of the few autos i like. I'd kill myself if i had to drive the maximas auto or something like that

The deal is $4000, 94 Z28, with 80,000 miles, would be 5,500 i would guess adding the trans. swap, is it worth it??

thats a nice price. Just be forewarned of the increased possiblity of a failing opti spark in the future.

I thik its a good deal for an auto, but i am confident you can find a 6spd Z28 tahts 95+ with 85k miles for $7000 or less. easily

Man, $4k sounds like a sweet deal. Hopefully nothing is wrong with the car.

If you want a 6 speed you may wanna just find one with the 6 speed. Gas mileage will be mid teens on an auto car in the city and low/mid 20s on the highway. In my 6 speed I get about 20-22 in the city and about 28-30 on the highway.

Oh no, $180 and 2 hours of labor!! Oh my god, what am I going to do?! I mean, maintain a car? that's ludicrous! what a piece of crap.

<-- has 95k on his stock opti.

Yeah I've got 95k on my stock opti and water pump. It's just a matter of time though...

What are you gonna do with it? I've recently realized that even though my main sport with my A4 is autocross, I think I actually prefer the auto with a good dose of LT1 Edit on the tranny tables, not to mention most will tell you the auto is better for the strip.

I think, and I realize many will disagree and that's just fine and dandy... that the 6spd is only advantageous in road racing and sheer fun for the backroads.

PS my '95 is for sale

As far as I know my opti is from factory and I just broke 90K a couple weeks ago, I am worried the opti is dying though.

you guys aren't gonna believe this no matter what I tell you but I just had to change my opti after 155,000 miles. I $hit you not......

edit: o yeah and the reason for it was because I didn't cover it up well enough when cleaning the engine. So it may have had more life in it. Although I did notice a huge power difference when I swapped it. So it needed it.....
